I'll be the first to admit i'm a bit of a dork. i've got an accounting degree and kinda have a thing for numbers. which brings me to my questions. I'm a tailor/enchat. and i'm looking, of course, to maximize my profits. It's easy enough to figure out which patterns to buy by looking at material cost and what other people are charging for the item at the AH. But how do i learn this about enchants? I can find mat info of course, but what i can get for the enchant is kinda tricky. Is it improper for me to ask others who are advertising their enchant services how much they are charging? Also, do any of y'all have a favorite enchant that would be worth me paying 100G plus for? thanks for the help

have fun,

Baaa, The enchanting isue again.
Lets start with I am of the school of thought that Blizard should have put a level restrict on the profession, like 30-40 to start, or have it so you have to have at least one toon at that level on that server before you can train it. Why you ask?
So as not to letting folks be tricked by this PITA of a professoin. TeJota The sad new is, their is not realy a way to "Maxamise" profits for enchanting, the best you can hope for is to reduce you cost,Enchanting is a hole you stuff money in, when it is full, you can start to build a pile.

On the way up to 300 you will find some enchants sell OK and even well(firey enchat may make you some cheese) but the flip side is that the mats for the enchant are worth more than the enchant, so when folks pay they are just subsdising you cost, sure as a tailor you make stuff then nuke it for mats, but the loss is that you could have sold that cloth or dust/shards/essence for more money than you "Make" on the enchant. Armed with this knowlage should change how you view the profession, and understand that you most likely will not see a proffitt till you cap 300 on the skill. Up untill 300 you are just filling the hole, so do not go nuts, find the cheapest(least expensive mats, or what you have) enchant you can do to level, and do it till you can do a new low cost enchant(the one and two soul dust bracer enchants come to mind) dont even buy the big enchants that take too much in mats. Me and a few other players have logged our "Cost to get to 300" enchanting, bareing in mind this cost was calculated with what we could have made on cloth or mats(we used what ever was lower in our math), and even included us "Selling" some enchants to recoop losses, the drawback is the ammount of time spend yelling for someboyd to buy your low level enchants, for weapons and armor they will only be using for 3-6 levels(that can be as little as 2-3 days of play); my record(low) being 210 gold, a guildie claims that he slod a lot of the enchants and was able to to it for 168 gold, but as it stands, he is 8 levels lower than I due to time spent in ORG trying to sell this stuff. With both of theese toons we only even learned the eazy enchants, not one that took a shard till I had to, so this was done as cheap as possible. So I farmed the mats(cloth and gems and perals and stuff) with my main, so the actualy cost in Gold(not what I "Could have Made") was arround 65 for training,Rod reagents, and the few sets of mats I was stuck on and pretty much had to buy.

But on to some other stuff.

The cost of enchants verries from server to server, so nobody can tell you a fair price, that is realy determined by the market on your server, the best way to go at it is to listen to others , see what they charge, price the mats and see if you can (idealy) break eaven or make a copper or two, or if it is imoprtant to level the skill(IMHO the only way to make money with it) to 300 , you can take a loss on the enchants(quite common, so when you see a price, think weatehr or not that guy is selling at a loss or not?

I love casters, so spell power is my fave, the mats can eazly cost over 200 gold on some servers.

Cost,is server dependant; Info on the enchants(like what they do) can be accessed on the tradeskills menue on the left. the same location holds info on the mats to do each enchant(this will help you pick what ones to train, and use to level the skill)

Hope it helps.
