need a comprehensive fishing guideFollow

Can, someone post a fishing guide. What is really needed, and I have looked through the trade skills forum quite a bit, is a guide on the quickest way to lvl your fishing....not farming spots for money....just where to go to quickly get your skill up and at what skill lvl to move on to the next waters.

Q. Where is the best place to raise my skill with fishing?

A. It is a common misconception that you need to move areas to raise up your fishing skill. The truth, whether good or bad, is that your skill rises at the same rate anywhere; and that rate goes by the number of catches you make, not by the level of fish you catch!

Therefore it stands to reason that if you want to powerlevel your fishing, you can do it anywhere you can reliably catch fish! In fact, you will actually harm your fishing skill-up rate if you fish in an area where you consistently get "Your fish got away!" messages.

Why do people fish in higher areas, then? The answer is easy: fishing normal fish gets you almost nothing of value. Fish, even the level 200+ ones, sell for a couple of copper to a vendor. However, fish are used in alchemy and cooking; so if you're spending the time to raise your skill and you can reliably fish in an area where the fish have a good niche on the market, why not sell them at the AH and make money while raising the skill?

You can reach level 300 fishing in even the newbie zones. It takes more and more successful catches to level your skill the higher that you go, but zones have NO differences. That's why there is no fishing guide, and why we have a Sticky at the top to explain it and not have these topics made :-P

Level fishing up in any body of water you choose. Location for skilling up is irrelevant as long as you don't get too many "You lost your catch" messages.

What you'll really want fishing for, besides cooking (and I'd like to note it's entirely possible to level cooking from 1 to 300 solely through cooking fish you catch.) is gold. Oily Blackmouth, Firefin Snapper, and Stonescale Eel are the three money makers, with Stonescales going for the most, usually a gold each. [Deviate Fish] from Lushwater Oasis outside the Wailing Caverns is another easy sell for Savory Deviate Delight (why you pricks think the recipe is worth 50-100G is beyond me, however. It's flat out not that rare and there's no supply and demand excuse here when you're talking a rediculous price like that) anyway I've found Oily Blackmoouth and Stonescale Eel sell the most, for the most.

Good idea to have all the fishing info in one place!

As the poster says, it's how many and not what type that get you to your max (225 points).

There are different fishing poles:
http://wow.allakhazam.com/dyn/items/wname20.html
-regular fishing pole (vendor)
-Strong fishing pole (vendor)
-Blump family fishing pole (quest in Auberdine)
-Big Iron fishing pole (shellfish traps near Shadowprey Village in Desolace)
-Arcanite fishing pole (Derby prize)
(Nat Pagle's is Horde only)
and prolly at least one more that i dont know about.

EDIT: Nearly forgot to mention the fishing manual you buy in Booty Bay!

There are some items that help (fishing hat etc) but are hard to get (the regular 2-4PM sunday fishing derby in Booty Bay /STV)an enchant to gloves, and prolly one or two more. BTW, the recipe fo r the the enchant comes from murlocs near Southshore. There are fishing lures of various levels and prices, and Cosmos/Khaos has a tackebox function that automates part of casting. If you are a cheapskate, you can get worms from ghouls in Darkshire.

An easy place to get deviants is stagnant oasis in the Barrens.
No one mentioned Nightfin, which i fish a lot of for my caster friends. They are like crack to them.

Also, I have found floating wreckage around STV that yields mithril boxes (unlocked) that often contain bolts of mageweave or runeweave with misc. items.

In other words, the "comprehensive fishing guide" is:

... fish, fish, fish, then fish some more ...

:)

Another tip (other than simply catch a lot of fish) is to use a lure if you're missing fish. That will save you time.

Also, why not combine fishing and cooking? A lot of fish do not require spices, so you can level both simultaneously.

good enough guide for levelling fishing without needing to be comprehensive
http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/guides.html?guide=389

having said that, i have raised two fishers and for one, i did 225-300 in wailing caverns on < lvl 75 fish.

the other i did in feralas on > lvl 225 fish.

both reached 300 so if you just reallllly want small brilliant fish because they're shiny, you can do just fine in the first zone you can fish at.
