Pros/Cons?

I'm thinking of dropping my Tailoring for Engineering (for PvP purposes, but I dont want to drop my 205 enchanting.

How well can Engineering (Gnomish eventually) be maintained without having mining? Would I go broke very quickly? Can it be done with a little farming here and there? Is it even worth it (although I'm pretty sure it is for PvP)?

Tell me everything you know about the subject, because I have never tried it and have no clue how it would work.

Leveling engeneering without mining wil be VERY VERY expensive.
You can do it the cheap way but it will require more time.
-Calculate what mining stuff you need to level engeneering to 300.
-Take mining, level it and get all the stuff needed, you will probably need multiple banking alts to hold all that stuff.
-Drop mining, take engeneering and level it.

To calculate what you need to level engeneering to 300, look here:

An alternative is to have an alt with mining.
Leveling that alt to 60 will require even more time, but you will have a source of mining good to support your engeneering for ever.

I vote for making an alt with mining. I have enough alts to cover all the profesions and classes, and I find that their skill levels progress much faster than the character levels. Nothing gets wasted, nearly everything I collect (excluding vendor trash) gets mailed to the appropriate alt and used, even if it's just sent to the AH mule and disenchanted.
