I have been given the quest to become an armoursmith and I am requested to make some ornate mithril items. From where can I get the recipes for these items?

I think we're going to need more information to help you out - like whether you're alliance or horde, which mithril items you need to make, what quest, etc. You can check the search bar on the left for "Quests - by Profession" for help with the quests, or "Trade Skills - by Trade" to find out where to get the plans you're missing.

For the alliance, the ornate mithril items went like this - you talked to someone in Ironforge, told him you wanted to be an armorsmith, and he sent you to Hank the Hammer in Stormwind City. Hank required six Golden Scale Bracers, then sent you to Booty Bay to find the Mithril Order. You talk to a smith there who sends you to find Galvan the Ancient, hidden out in the wilds of Stranglethorn Vale. He teaches you three of the Ornate Mithril patterns in exchange for mithril, truesilver, gemstones, and so forth, then sends you to his finest student in Gadgetzan, who teaches you the other three patterns in exchange for items made with the patterns you learned from Galvan.

Good luck

Yep thanks. I checked the quests list for "The Art of Armoursmithing" and found a good post detailing it all. Much more complicated than I thought, hah. Thanks for the pointer. I suppose I should go mining ...
