Warlocks can't use leather. Ever.

Cloth Classes:
Priests, Mages, Warlocks

Leather Classes:
Hunters (Get mail at 40), Shaman (Get mail at 40), Rogue, Druid

Mail:

Warrior (Get plate at 40), Paladin (Get plate at 40)

Yes, that's how the game is designed. You can only wear cloth as a trade of for having a pet and some DPS. Warlock has a bunch of unique tools though, and you'll be a tough opponent regardless of what type of armor you have.

Even if you can only wear cloth armor, Warlock are by far the most healthy (hp-wise) cloth class. A Demonology-specced Warlock is supposedly better at surviving an onslaught than a Paladin. I saw the math somewhere; if you're specced demonology with decent gear at level 60, you effectively have 13,000 hp to throw around o_O.

Even a normal Warlock will have a good amount of health. For example, my 60 Mage with three epics and the rest blues, has 2500 hp. My 46 Warlock has the same amount... and is in almost all greens. Warlocks just seem to attract +stamina gear, I guess.

Warlocks are especially not-squishy when Demonology specced. here's why...

For the sake of things let's say Bob the level 60 Warlock has 5500 HP. Based on profiles here on Allakhazam, many warlocks have more than 6000. :o

Soul Link, the final tier Demonology talent, directs 30% of physical damage taken to the pet. When fighting melee classes like rogues or warriors in PVP, this is essentially a 30% increase in total health, because most if not all damage that you take will be physical.

30% of 5500 = 1650. Now we're at 7150 hypothetical HP (until the pet dies, of course). Note that this applies no matter what pet the warlock has active.

Now, say Bob is using his Voidwalker. The Master Demonologist talent reduces all damage taken by the warlock by 10% while VW is out. so we're at a total of 40% damage reduction.

40% of 5500 = 2200. This brings it to 7700 health. Quite a bit ^^

Also remember that Demonology warlocks have instant summon, so there's nothing stopping them from sacrificing a Voidwalker for 30 seconds of invulnerability, and then immediately insta-summoning another pet: even another Voidwalker for another 30 seconds of the sacrifice shield.

Truly very difficult toons to take down :)

Well, you could go Demonology and Affliction, after all :-P However, I personally would have to think twice before I would go Demonology and lose my SM/Ruin spec. It's just too useful. Besides, I used to play a Paladin; I won't give up my damage for survivability EVER again :-P
