because of my current character and fishing level, i fish up quite a bit of deviate fish in the barrens. but so far i've just been running from school to school of deviate fish, and i was just wondering if it's necessary to do that to catch deviate fish, or if you just are guaranteed to catch whatever fish is in that school?

sometimes i would rather just plop down at a pond in the barrens and stay there till i've had my fill of deviates. but if that's not possible, or if it will take twice as long to catch them that way i'll just keep doing what i've been doing. can anyone enlighten me?

Keep up what your doing if what you are looking for is deviate fish. Fishing outside a Node(pool) will result in a lot of diffrent fish, and the deviate is one of the more rare ones on the loot table. If you are looking to level fishing and catch some deviate fish, then tear at what you are doing, otherwise, if the fish are your objective, stick with your current plan.

Besides, you can sometimes get boxes, bloated fish, or Stranglekelp from fish nodes as well. I like the bloated fishies, generally they have jewelry or gems in them.

If you don't have a mount, fish all the school in an oasis, then go ahead of fish the open water (I could look up the drop rate, but I'd guess it's somewhere between 10-20%).

If you have a mount, it's worthwhile to ride from oasis to oasis, fishing all the schools.

If you are Alliance on a PvP server, you're better off fishing inside the Wailing Caverns instance.

I agree with the last poster; after the schools expire, stay at the pool fishing. I have found Deviate fish are around a 30-40% drop rate. A lot higher than Oily Blackmouths, Firefin Snapper, etc. in other parts, at least. Deviate Fish really aren't that rare. You'll get a lot of rockjaw mudsnappers, some catfish (very rare), and some brilliant smallfish or something. But The snappers are most common, and then the deviates.

After an hour of fishing (and I keep an eye out for respawning schools), I probably have around 40-50 Deviates, 80 Snappers, and less than a stack of each of the other kinds. I also found a green, a white item, and like three trunks from the schools. And a little less than a stack of Stranglekelp. w00t.

I like Barrens' fishing ^_^

Okay. I looked it up. Deviates are about a 30% drop rate. So definitely fish the open water after you clear the schools (unless you have a mount). And don't forget that the pool in front of Wailing Caverns might have a chest in it!

My favorite fishing spot is right infront of the Wailing caverns. It's quiet no "LFG/WTB/WTS/OMGWTFBBQ" and rarely anyone walking in to bug ya. I only wish the pool had nodes spawn.
