Does anyone else think that armoursmithing is a waste of time? I am a 300 armoursmith and i have the plans for many epic items, but most of them require mats that are 25g each (arcanite bars is the main culprit here), so to make a good piece of armour it costs me around 300-400 gold?!?!?!?!?! bOnce i have made the item i then want to sell it on, but i have to price it at wahtever the mats cost me + 10g, which sucks, because 10g isn't worth the hassle!!

Then there's the problem of whether or not someone will buy it, but no-one will, because they can just do the high lvl instances and get epic items anyway, so i'm reduced to going round ironforge and bugging people to see if they want 'a full imp plate set', or making sharpening stones for guildies.

Ah well, rant over, i just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem?

Better go, i can hear someone yelling out for grinding stones =)

I am in the same boat as you. I am currently only level 265 in AS but I know about the hassles that it comes with. I can make most of the imperial armor set and it doesn't really sell for much. The main things you can make money selling are the dark iron set pieces because of their high fire resistance warriors and pallies love them for doing MC and Onyxia. If you don't have the plans for the dark iron items they are aquired by getting rep with the thorium brotherhood but if you do already then I would suggest making those.

There are many many threads on here about the best profesions for making money. I think, no matter what production profesions you have, there are not enough things you can make that will sell for enough money to make it worth your time. I chose armorsmithing on my last toon just cause I thought it was useful to make my own armor. Eventually, I plan to have a toon to cover every profesion. That way nothing is wasted, and I can make anything I want.

Advice has been given to new players in multiple threads, (it's even in the sticky at the top of the page), to choose two gathering profesions if your goal is to make money. Skinning and either mining or herbalism is the preferred way to go. Mining and herbalism together are impracticle because you can only use one tracking method at a time. That advice isn't just good for new players. If those materials sell when you're level 15, they'll still sell when your level 40 or 60.

Unfortunately for you, if you were to give up blacksmithing entirely and pick up skinning, and then later on come back to blacksmithing, you still have to go armorsmith. You'll have to start all over and build up your skill, but when you hit 200, it's no longer a choice between weapons or armor. You've already made that choice.

maybe the reason u cant sell is because there are just too many armorsmiths running around in your server, i just got armorsmith and i am the 4th person to do so in my server as far as i know, so therefore my items sell like flies like i can put up a WTS and get at least 4 people pst'ing me with offers for them

its not that dude, its the fact that it costs about 200g to make anythin decent, and no-one will pay that for a piece of armour that they could go into an instance and get even better.
