trade skills for a warlockFollow

#1 Jan 31 2006 at 1:18 PM Rating: Decent
Okay....Starting a lock again and can't figure out what for a trade skill. I thought of tailoring/enchanting so I can make my own stuff to use and boost as I want, And I also thought of Alchemy/herbilism so i can have extra buffs and stats, etc., etc.
And of course the money makers like skining/mining so what do you think would be the best idea.

I went Tailoring/Chanting and it rocks one reason is that you can make your Robe of the Void! which is BoP so you cant buy it then Chanting is a HUGE money maker in the high lvls... just my opinion.

I can see that working out for the higher levels, but when you are leveling up it kinda seems to be a major downner. I thought about maybe doing a money maker until 40 and then power leveling enchanting but then I miss out on all the little buffs I can do at lower levels.

There is a warlock quest that needs a tailored item to begin (Robes of Arcana). So tailoring might be a good choice. I duo with another warlock, so I took alchemy/herbalism and he took enchanting/tailoring.

Don't overlook fishing, cooking and first aid. My fishing has been what made his tailoring doable.

As a lock you don't need mount money at 40 but since you have a pet to train, its still not that cheap. I was always paying more money per level than my wife's priest was. That might have changed a few patches ago, I'm not sure.

Tailoring/enchanting is a nice combination but you'll be broke most of the time.

You can't use your cloth for first aid (an excellent warlock tool!) if you are using it to raise tailoring.

You can't sell your unneeded greens in the AH if you are using the dusts for raising enchanting.

I'd recommend....
Enchanting but as a disenchanter only to gather dusts, etc... to sell in AH up until you are level 40.

and then any other gathering skill.

Unlearn that second gathering skill and go tailoring at 40 after you have your mount and 40th spells. That would mean though that you have to buy your robes of arcana instead of making your own. Its really hard to find the recipe for the robes anyway :-)

OR

Go skinning/herbalism to 40 saving/selling herbs as you see fit and then drop skinning for Alchemy at 40. My warlock was a herbalist/alchemist while leveling and it ate a decent amount of money up and you can always sell the herbs in AH for more than the potions they make with a few exceptions. If you are dedicated to herbalism and will farm herbs instead of looting what comes along (as I do) you can make a lot selling herbs and never run out of potions that are useful. Since I'm more lazy than that, I've actually bought major heals off the AH a couple of times. When all you do is instances, you aren't seeing herbs P:-) Of course, I have plenty of money by this point to where I don't worry about buying a stack or two of healing potions anymore :-)

thanks for the info everyone. However some of it still is appealing over the other. Alchemy/herbilism has its ability to sell unwanted potions for profit if need be and the high level potions (which do require some searching for herbs) have very nice stat bonuses. So if PvP and instances are your main thing (sort of mine) then I can see doing that. However some of the nice items like all the flarecore or robe of the void I thought were tailor made which means you would need that as a profession. Also tailoring/enchanting has some drawbacks such as ghost dy which is alchemy made or leathers for outfits or bags. so at times it has to rely on other classes which I havent really noticed in herbilism/alchemy.
