pros and cons: Armorsmith vs. WeaponsmithFollow

I'm really torn on this. I've looked at the items that can be made either way, and I can't decide which I like better. Ultimately I'm gonna see what people in my guild are doing to help with the decision. No sense in going armorsmith if we already have one.

I'd like to hear other people's thoughts and preferences on this.

As a Weaponsmith with a skill of 297, I can tell you the biggest downfall of this path is that you have to specialize into one of 3 different paths to be able to make the really high end stuff.

Also, when grinding rep with various factions, it seems the pay off is better for armorsmiths. For example, if you are a Weaponsmith you can get maybe 2-3 different recipies from the Thorium Brotherhood, but armorsmiths get tons of possibilities.

Insult to injury, the best weapon you can "smith" in the game, Sulfuron, does not require you to be a weaponsmith. Unless your guild really needs a Weaponsmith, I would go Armorsmith.

Bump. I'd like to hear some more discussion on this as I am in the same predicament.

if your guild has some up and coming hunters in it, being an axesmith is a choice...always good to be able to hook them up with some dawn's edges

I tried asking my guild what we needed, but no one responded. I chose armorsmith. I'm a little intimidated by the shopping list of materials. To get all the way done with the quests and become an armorsmith, you need:

332x Mithril Bars
40x Iron Bars
24x Truesilver Bars
16x Thick Leather
18x Mageweave
9x Solid Grinding Stones
4x Citrine
3x Aquamarine
4x Black Pearl
1x Heart of Fire

i think the shopping list is so big because they assume u will finish it at lvl 50. i could be wrong but i am also an armorsmith and completed the quest for it at lvl 44. when u finish u only get to choose 2 items to make. from what i can tell there is more later on when u find the bottom/top half advanced armorsmithing volumes 1-3. these are availible to use at lvl 50. again i could be wrong.

Once you get the initial armothsmith quest done (which gives you some mithril plans in itself), you can pick up a couple of new plans from the goblin in Booty Bay. The other plans, other than the books, are either found, bought or traded for.

There's a rep from Thorium Brotherhood in Gadget that will trade you Imperial Plate plans for Thorium bars. Varries from 20 bars to 60 bars ber plan set. They start at lvl 275 or 280 if memory serves.
