Disenchanting broken in 1.9.x?Follow

#1 Jan 13 2006 at 7:37 AM Rating: Decent
In the last 2 days I have found 2 weapon types that I can not disenchant: Dizzling Mithril Rapier (bought 3 of them....) and some low level sword that dropped. The message is "item can not be disenchanted".
Does anybody know anything about that?

Hey that happened to my chanter one time, don't remember what he was trying to DE, but it was annoying. Luckily he got the item from a drop, not from buying.

Yes, I noticed that too. At the time I though they had somehow disabled disenchanting things that were far below your level because the items were weapons/bop drops from a quest reward for a lowbie quests / instance.

Haven't encountered that recently though so not sure if it was fixed in the hot patch...

You can not disenchant things that have had an enchant applied to them. Look at your items and see if they are enchanted already as that is the most likely reason you can not disenchant them.

Since when? I enchant everything I have that can be enchanted, and when I upgrade, I always disenchant them. I've never been unable to disenchant an enchanted item.

same here, with xadon, i have been able to d/e my own items which i enchanted.

Agreed. Enchanting or otherwise modifying the item (patching, adding spurs, counterweight, etc.) doesn't change your ability to D/E it.

I've never been able to disenchant an item that I've enchanted with an enchanting formula or that someone else has enchanted with an enchant formula. I have been able to disenchant items with a counterweight or an armor kit on them. Maybe it's just a bug with me.

Must be a bug Xalt, I also enchant and DE everything piece of equipment i get.

The way I understand it is that you can only disenchant something that was magical before you put an enchant on it. You could have two identical bows, one white, and the green one with a +2 ranged attack on it. You'd get to disenchant the green because of the +2... If you enchanted both of them, you'd still get to enchant the green one because of the previous magical properties, where as the white one is still the same but with an added bonus.

As for green items that aren't disenchanting.. It could be that the item doesn't actually have any magical properties. I think I've seen a few green weapons which were basically just white's with a green name. No special properties.. But I don't know for sure; it's been a long time since I've seen anything like that.

I remember not being able to DE the lvl 10 Warrior quest reward. I ended up with the axe and the sword, but wasn't able to DE the sword, only the axe. Thats the only time i haven't been able to DE something.

I don't know if it's a temp bug or if DEing got nerfed. I got a set of Funeral Cuffs (BoP blue item) in LBRS yesterday (noone needed them and I had highest roll). I tried to DE them for the shard and got the "item can not be disenchanted" message. Someone in the raid group said I couldn't DE it because it was a cloth item but I know that's BS because I've DE'd cloth items plenty of times. I'm gonna check with a GM and see what's up.

That guy in the raid group was right.
There's an error in the latest patch that causes cloth items to be unDE-able. There's talk about other items, but I haven't checked up on it in a while.
Here's the link, so you can read for yourself:

That is all quite funny. There was something broken with disenchanting for the last month - I had 3 rapiers I could not disenchant, and I think I opened like 5 tickets about it. So they fixed it in 1.9.3. Hurrah! But apparently the fix was so bad that it broke more than it fixed, and a lot of people reported problems with disenchanting cloth armor after 1.9.3. Buahaha. They just can not get ANYTHING right. I have the impression that the game was created by geniuses and is now maintained by idiots...

I'm a low level enchanter - just started this char, but I can't seem to dis-enchant a 'tigerseye' ?? Am I too low level to do this? I get the "this item cannot be disenchanted" message. help please?

Only things you can wear/wield can be disenchanted.
Additionally avoid the cultist set armor from Silithius, as it can not be disenchanted either.

On that note is the Traveler's Backpack DEable? It's green and you can equip it.

Oh, and gems, pearls, etc. even though they're green are not DEable.

Items bought from BGs with the proper faction are NOT DEable.

you can only get skill from disenchanting up to about 65..after that, you need to actually enchant to raise your skill.
