OK, i just turned in 3 stacks of 20 thorium bars and all i got was like 60 of those rep things im now at 3000/6000 reputation with Ironforge(City where i turned it in). Isnt doing quests faster though? just wanting to know whats so freakin good about helpin with the war effort. i've turned in my share now... got some crappy greens -.-

I think the main reason to contribute is that it helps to open up the gates to the new instanced dungeons. I am not 100% sure of this, but as it is a world event, the gates stay open forever.
Also, you can get faction with the other races in your racial group, and, lastly, I have seen people get some cool blue items out of the boxes you get by handing stuff in.

For those of us who are 60, and want a crossracial mount, this way of getting rep is much better than turning in runecloth. We have already done most/all the quests.

You can use the markers to get more green items, if you do not really need the rep. Every once in a while something nice drops, I have got 3-5 nice greens for my lvl 43 rogue alt. As well as two blues, in about 200 turnins.

If you want to maximize your profit, selling the thorium at the ah at inflated price is probably best :D

My rogue hit 60 before Blizzard put in the cloth turn in quests. Since I had no hope of ever getting the kitty mount I wanted I hardly did any of the Darnassus quests. And I can’t do them now as I would not get any rep to speak of as most if not all would be gray to me. As a result my rep with the elves isn’t very high. I’ve been turning in stacks and stacks and stacks of thick leather and I’m still only half way through honored. It’s very discouraging. But I’ll do what I can now and hope that these small drops in the reputation bucket will help make a difference some day.
