Fishing MacroFollow

#1 Jan 12 2006 at 12:08 PM Rating: Decent
Hey,
Is it possible to make a macro to make it to where you do not have to click on the fishing bobber but rather just put the macro as a hot key and push a key.

Also: When leveling fishing.. Does it level at the same pace no matter where you fish?

no, that would be too automated. Blizzard doesn't allow for it.

Regarding leveling the skill, you are correct, you can sit in a low level zone and skill all the way to 300 if you have the time and patience. Though there have been some reported bugs recently, so you may see really slow progress with raising your skill.

You get better fish if you go to higher zones, so I suggest not sitting in a low level zone if you don't have to.

This is called a bot. It's against the TOS. There are bots out there, but I wouldn't recommend using them unless you want to get put in the hoosegow. I would recommend, instead, trying something like FishingBuddy, Fisheasy, or Tacklebox to make your fishing life easier. I believe that all three can be found at ui.worldofwar.net.

And you level at the same pace no matter where you are, no matter what your intellect is, no matter the equipment or lures that you are using.

I'm not asking for a bot.. I'm asking if there was a macro I could create that would allow me fish only using my keyboard. I'm not looking for a 3rd party software that will automatically fish for me.

Well, you're asking for a macro that would somehow be able to read the pixels generated by your video card, discern which ones are the bobber, and send data through the client to the server emulating a right-click on those pixels.

That's pretty much a bot.

You can most likely create a button that would have your character cast his line. But that’s about it. Blizzard wants players to have to manually select the bobber and click on it to bring in the fish.

When the game first came out people could fish up green items fairly frequently and raw fish, especially higher level fish, sold for a good chunk of change to NPC vendors. Then came the bots. These low life cheaters set up characters to automatically fish when nobody was at the keyboard. They made tons of money and started flooding the economy with a title wave of coins of magic items. Because of this Blizzard removed most non-fish from fishing and dropped the coin value of fish to almost nothing. In other words, people using fishing bots ruined fishing for everyone for over a year. With this latest patch Blizzard had added some fun back to fishing. But don’t be surprised if a lot of people are rather sensitive about fishing macros.

Does any one know where I can find a bot that automaticaly administers Visine to my dry eyes while I stare unblinkingly at the bobber?

In the sound options turn down the background music and turn up the sound effects. After throwing your line, keep your mouse on the bobber then click when you hear the familiar swish-dunk sound of a bite. Then you can give your eyes a rest and frees them to do other things like read the forums, the latest patch notes or even a book. After a while I found this actually very relaxing.

I often do the same thing. Without all the other sounds you can crank up that bobber sound rather loud if you like. Of course, I often end up watching television so I’m not really doing my eyes much good. But I am helping my wrist since I don’t have to keep it expectantly on the mouse.

a scirpt to strike a key on the audio que of the bobber and you are talking about a bot, so essentaly you are looking for a half bot, and thats just too close, a popular method to save eye strain is to use a ornate spyglass, this makes the bobber huge so you just have to find it, then only a chuckelsaur would miss it.

Okay.. I no way was I looking for a bot. I was just trying to find a shortcut to by-pass the mouse. I wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers or anything. Its just that if you are typing in game and then you see your bobber jump then you got to stop typing and take your hand to the mouse.. anyways..

Thanks for your opinions.

I think I understand what the OP wants.

No, there is NO (legal) way to link the mouse click to a keyboard key.
You HAVE to click the mouse button, Blizzard won't let you link it to the keyboard, period.

Here's a tip on how I fish, rather fast, without using macros or add ons.
I usually do it when wating for friends, but that doesn't mean I enjoy wasting 1 hour for 2 skillups due to slowness.
So, preparation time, I put the fishing icon on the quickbar, at 7 or higher. You'll see why I don't put it from 1 to 6 in a second.
I equip the fishing rod, apply a lure if I need to, then block the SHIFT key in the pressed position with a pen cap or another small pointy item.
Now,
- I press 7 (or whatever over 6) to cast the line (If I pressed 1-6 I would only change the quickbar since the SHIFT is pressed)
- I position the mouse over the bobber
- When I see the bobbing or hear the splashy sound I right click then re-press 7 immediately and reposition the mouse.

This way, I don't waste time either looting or casting, and my hand is not tired from constantly pressing the SHIFT key.

This may be overkill to those of you with less lag, but in my case (700 ms latency) I need to click at the EXACT moment of bobbing not to lose the fish. So I don't have tme to press SHIFT before looting only, I need it on all the time.

Now if I COULD link the right mouse button to the keyboard it would be sooo much simpler, I'd set it to 8, and then happily only touch the mouse to follow the bobber at each cast.

Hope this helps.

Also, hang in there, catching sagefish has added to my fun, and seeing wreckage interrupts anything I'm doing just to fish it.

I use a laptop (I know... it's a bit crazy, but with enough ram, it's ok).

Anyway, fishing like this - I do have a button on my keyboard : ) I keep both my external and my on board mouse enabled - so I can use the onboard right button. Best thing ever...

I can't believe how many people didn't actually read what the original poster asked for. He (she?) never asked for a bot. He just wanted to know if it was possible to use a key on the keyboard instead of the mouse to actually catch the fish. It isn't a bot - it's still pressing the key manually when the bobber moves, just on the keyboard instead of the mouse. I too wish I could do that. The laptop button is a nice idea, btw.

There is an add-on called Tackle Box that helps with fishing. It can automatically recast your line when you click to catch a fish, saving a key press. I believe the current version will even automatically re-apply bait when needed too. No, this is not a bot - it does not automate fishing so you can just let it run automatically. It does make the process take fewer keystrokes. The add-on is part of Cosmos UI.

I read and fully understood what the OP was asking for. They are asking for the ability to hotkey the "act" of moving the mouse to where the bobber is and to emulate a right-click action at that location. Not only that, but they may actually be asking for the ability to emulate a SHIFT+right-click in order to more efficiently recast.

Blizzard's concept of fishing is that not only do they want you to be there to do it, they want you to pay attention. Anything that eliminates a physical process is a bot. Pure and simple.

Fishing UI's are still not exactly beloved by Blizzard because of the recasting mechanism, but they tolerate them because it actually makes people want to fish. You might want to try FishingBuddy. It puts together the best of both worlds in TackleBox and FishEase, and adds all kinds of nice little bells and whistles like a dressing room screen to automate the swapping of your gear.

Actually there is a way to physically attach the mouse button to a key on the keyboard only problem is that you can't use that key again better way would be to hook it to a button in your hand with a modified mouse itself and is quite easy to do if have an extra mouse you don't mind operating on for 5 minutes.....then all you have to do is mouse over bobber and then when splash just push the button in your hand..........

I use to buid home made arcade machines this way using computers as the hardware and attaching arcade controls through the mouse and keyboard for a cheap solution to people that want an arcade machinge but don't have thousands of dollars to spend

attaching a button to the mouse would be very easy to say the least.......

You are so right. I do the same thing. But even though I can do other things (since I'm only waiting for the splash sound), my wrist still gets tired "hovered" over the mouse. If I'm not too careful, I accidentally press the mouse button when there is no fish! I'm sure we've all done that but I like not having to "watch" the freakin' bobber all the time. I usually end up reading some of my class guides (and guzzle suds) while I wait for the "splash" sound.

I use FishPing. It's a more distinctive sound than the standard bobber.

FishEase is another nice addon that is simmilar to TackleBox and FishingBuddy. Basically it eliminates a click by casting as you pick up your catch.
Gonna still have to learn to love your mouse, but at least now I don't have to use my keyboard at all...
