Formula for Skill-upsFollow

#1 Jan 05 2006 at 3:01 PM Rating: Decent
I have searched all over and I can not find this information...

Say a tradeskill item can be first created at skill 125.
At what skill would that item change from orange to yellow, then to blue, green, grey.

Is there a hard formula that would say the color changes each 15 points? or how does that work. Is it different for each tradeskill?

If a formula isn't known, is there a site that has posted tradeskill items with this kind of info listed too?

As Almus said, it's completely different for each recipe. Even if you have two recipes that require 125 Alchemy, they can turn colors at entirely different skill levels. You can look up individual items here and some players will have reported what level it turned a certain color but there's no compilation of all this information.

Humm.... I am sure it has been posted here before, and may even be int he guide secion, but SheenyFFXI is 100% right not all recipes are equal, some things ya learn as yellow, thats right never orange. While said info dose exsist(But it is your job to find it OP)It is mostly pointless, and here is why.

The scale of when things yellow/green/grey out is dependent on the ammount/rarity of the ingredents, so someing that uses next to no reagets, and no rare ones will be hard pressed to get you 15-20 adds, stuff like making bolts of silk(takes only skil) but sutuff that takes a insane amount of stuff(like the blue patterns) will keep going for like 30 points.

OP I understand what you want to do you are looking for a way to make a "Game plan" or a way to level effectivly and cheaply, such a game plan would in theroy allow you to map out what you need to farm/buy and push though a tradeskill in no time for the lowest possible cost, and while a plan would help, it gets pretty wrecked when the (for example)5 healing potions(that are yellow) dont give you a skill up, yup it can happen, and you have to go buy more reagents, and now ingredents used by other itmes on your gameplan have been used to play catchup to what you though was the best plan. I know this because I had the same bright idea, and it failed me each time i did it, becasue their is no garuentee (other than a orange) to getting a skill add, their is so much chance to it.

The Low-down: the most effective way to level/Power level a tradeskill is to work dynamicly about it. Make what ever is the best payout for what you can make. I will stick to alchemy as it is a eazy one, and relevent so at alchemy 195 a alchemst has 2 new potions to make Elixir of Detect Lesser Invisibility, and Elixir of Greater Defense, the game plan method would tell you how menny of each you think you may need, but when it comes time it is simply a matter of what has cheaper mats, and thats server/day/phase of the moon dependent, and no gameplan will keep that in mind. the trick is to do it, dont overthink.

P.S. if that was not your plan, sorry for assuming.

while it may not be easy to find a plan that tells you when some item goes green or grey, there are several fine plans telling of usually two methods to level up a trade skill. one method is the cheapest cost in mats to still reach 300, probably not the most profitable though. the other is the most profit in selling off your created item, but probably involves a lot of mats and certain recipes.

theres definately a guide/post somwhere which show when each formula turns yellow/green/grey. but other than that lvl by simply selecting the highest level formula u have that is useful (easier in alchmey than in most others as the potions can be quite useful through the entire leveling process ... don't think i've yet to make a potion i didn't need/use)
