Speaking from limited experience mind you, but I have only seen FireFin and Oily Blackmouth schools, are there any others? I'm fishing in Steamweedle Port.

I don't see why they even went through the trouble to do this so far. Do you guys think there will be some worthwhile items that can be fished up in the pools? I just don't see the justification in making fishermen run up and down coastlines for two fish that WERE easily caught and for chests that will most likely contain 2 bolts of silk or some mithril casing.

Someone have any positive reactions to the addition? Anyone get any nice equipment, etc...?

I've heard of "junk" pools or "shipwreck" pools or somesuch where you fish up mostly boxes.

People have gotten green items out of those boxes.

Is it worth it? Don't know :-)

Apparently you haven't been up to Azshara yet.

Try the Bay of Storms. Bring your fishing tourney trinket. I think you'll like the results.

I don't think I'd have a good time up there. I'm only lv36. Is there an easy way to get up there? I swam there once but got aggro to much, I was only 29 at the time however, but I know that is a high lv area.

Yeah, at level 36 you're not going to have much success there. Too many mobs in the water (especially 55 elite giants), so stick to Tanaris and STV. I hear there's all kinds of good stuff along the coasts there. A friend mentioned that he pulled several mithril lockboxes out of spawns down there last night.

You'll need to be level 55-ish to fish the spawns in Azshara, and you'll need 300 fishing + gear + lure to be effective. I've got everything (+35 pole with eternium line, boots and gloves) except the lucky fishing hat and I can use the +75 lures with only a few missed casts. Don't want to waste good attractors for spawn-fishing.

300 is a long way for me now based on the reports I'm reading. I completed the lv cap quest as soon as I hit 35. I hope they fix whatever is wrong with lving or figure out if we have to do somethig different for skill ups.

Thanks for the info. I will plug along the tanaris coastline for now just to see what I can get in those boxes. Hopefully something good.

I swam all over Bay of Storms last night and didn't find a single school of fish... =(

Will be trying again tonight.

Fishing was the first thing I checked out when I got into game yesterday. For me, its one of the most exciting things found in the patch. I spent most of my time along the shores of Stranglethorn. While there is a chance to pull up items from the firefin and blackmouth schools, what I was looking for were the pools of wreckage. From these I sometimes pulled out kelp or mugs of ale. But most of the time I pulled up bloated mightfish or mithril bound chests. Though once I reached the beach where the horde outpost is located I started pulling out iron bound chests. So those waters must be lower level.

From the bloated mightfish I caught I pulled out one Citrine, four star rubies and one level 40 ring. Each of the mithril bound chests contained coins, one to two silver. The rest was random. Sometime all I got were coins. Sometimes I’d get five or six items. There were manna and healing potions. I collected about six green pieces of armor from levels 38 to 44. I had a couple of stacks of rugged leather and about 20 bolts of runecloth. I was rather impressed with the runecloth, as those 20 bolts are equal to 100 sheets of runecloth.

I’m very pleased with Blizzard for putting some fun back into fishing. It’s a shame that cheaters had to ruin fishing for everyone for over a year. But now fishing can be exciting again. I think its great that I got more green items from my time fishing than I’ve gotten from soloing sections of SM. This should help enchanters a great deal.

I’ll have to take my level 60 rogue to the Bay of Storms and see what he can pull up. His fishing pole is +25 and he has fishing boots for an additional +5. But it’s still only going to be hit or miss using +50 lures. I’ll take some +100s with me just in case, but with all that running around I kind of hate to use them.

Also check inland waters for schools of Sagefish. When cooked the greater Sagefish will heal both your health and manna while sitting and eating. And they also give manna regen for ten minutes after eating. My druid is very excited about these.

Great post. Kind of input I'm looking for. I have been purposely gimping myself since lv29, I'm a Hunter and waiting to hit 40 so i can wear some mail, so pulling up greenies in my lv range would be sweet.

How long would you say you were fishing for?

Well, I found about five wreckage pools in my first sweep down the shore of Stranglethorn. However, keep in mind that this took place when nobody else was looking for them. I expect they’ll be harder to find for a while when the masses learn what can be pulled from them. I also pulled up mithril bound chests from the shore of Tanaris. So if you know of some less traveled shore lines in that level range they might well be worth visiting.

I think it's pretty funny that I can travel Tanaris shoreline more than STV. I love the non-aggroing turtles :D

I found the fishing nodes to be hellafun. I caught sacks full of junk off the coast in the Barrens and sagefish galore in Silverpine. It was like Winter Veil all over again openning those crates and bloated fish for items.

I do have a couple concerns.

(1) Fish like oily blackmouths used to sell for 10s each. I fear their price will drop dramatically now that they are so simple to catch in quantity (each blackmouth school seemed to give up 3-6 fish...so catching them is much less time consuming and there are schools all over the place).

(2) Now everyone will want to fish. Again, that will decrease the profit from what already was a poor way to make money. Then again, a greater population will benefit from having more materials available for themselves to use.

I love the nodes, don't get me wrong, but I think there are just too many of them.

Of course, it's also fun to mess with those pesky paladin fishermen by fishing their holes. He had no business fishing in the shadow of Tarren Mill, anyhow!

Even fishing at the lower levels can be fun. If the servers are a bit wonky, I head to the water and fish for a little while. Even getting a potion now in then is not so bad. when you are just starting out.

Just curious, any luck? I scoured Bay of Storms with no luck for about 2 hours.

Look for bright blue spherical spawns in the water. The spawn points are static, but are few and far between. There is one that is literally at the farthest island (which isn't really an island) east in the bay. I think that there is only a max of two spawns up at any given time, so you really have to swim around a lot to find the ones that are up. Some are on big islands, some are on little rocks jutting up out of the water, one even is on the right side of Scalebeard's cave.

I'll give another hint here: the name of the spawn is "Patch of Elemental Water". And you don't get fish from them.

What is the Swirling Maelstrom? And why did they put it in the middle so only those who can walk on water/levitate can fish? :(

You can find schools of sagefish in Hillsbrad Foothills (as well as other places). Cooked sagefish has a nice buff (mana per second) in addition to returning health and mana when eaten. The east side of Lordamere Lake has greater sagefish, and can be safely fished at low levels.

One of the easiest ways to make money at levels 20-30 is greater sagefish + cooking, in my opinion.

Yea, that river by Tauren Mill rocked. I don't know how often you find pools there but when I saw one I got pretty good stuff. Threw my lure in 3 times. First time caught a fish. Second time caught some drink that raised my Stamina by 10. The last time I got a chest with some money and a green item inside. Wanted to stay longer but I was on a mission...

This is my new passion. I was doubting the addition but am now sold. I love it! A great spot is to head to Theramore and run up and down the coastline with all the turtles. You'll get tons of normal schools of firefin and oily's, and some floating wreckage as well.

I first found this out when I was wandering around in the Wetlands. I found some school of blackmouths and firefins there...

And after reading this thread and this:

I'm thinking about to combine these areas for fishing, go to theramore and memethil by hopping on the boats...
