How enchanting works..?Follow

#1 Jan 02 2006 at 7:04 AM Rating: Decent
Hi, i've again made a new char and chose Enchanting as one of my professions. The only thing is I don't know a lot about enchanting, only that you can do +STAM +AG glows...etc, and i'd like to know how I get shards and stuff.

Can someone please help me out a little bit?

Thanks ^^

Hi there!

When you first learn Enchanting, you are given 2 skills: Enchant and Disenchant. Enchant as you probably know by now allows you to cast permanent buffs on various equiptment/weapons. Disenchant allows you to "pick apart" any item that is does not have a white or grey name. By disenchanting an item, you turn it into dusts/shards/crystals etc. In the process however, that item is destroyed.

You can also buy some very basic dust and essence from an enchanting supplies vendor, and buy all kinds of dusts and whatnot from the Auction House. Enchanting can become an expensive profession when you start off because you'll either disenchant the green (and better) drops that you get in order to attain regeants. This prevents you from selling such drops in the AH or to vendors (where you could make more money.) Or, you'll spend money in the AH to buy regeants from users.

BUT if you stick with enchanting, you'll be making good money by selling your high skill to people who want things enchanted.

You need to make a runed copper rod so you can practice the Enchanting profession(like a skinning knife is required in the Skinning profession.) As your skill as an enchanter grows, you will need to make different (more powerful) rods.

I have heard that it can be more profitable to stick with two gathering professions (like skinning/herbalism) when you start out, and then drop one for a manufacturing profession like enchanting or alchemy (etc) when you are a higher level (30+). It allows you to sell whatever you gather to make money for equiptment and whatnot, and when you're a higher level, you'll have enough money as basis to afford buying supplies/leveling your tradeskill of choice. It's all up to you though!

You should look into a mod called enchantrix also this will give you more of an idea what the disenchant will yield and %'s from a given item.

Actually I find at around lvl 35+ you can start disenchanting green weapons for more than you can sell them for on the AH. Typically you could get 2 gold for selling the weapon, or 5 gold for selling the Greater Nether Essence that it disenchants to 90% of the time (or 8g for the small radiant shard for the other 10% of disenchants)

A production profession is especially profitable, as you can buy the materials you need, level your profession, then make money by selling the disenchants. A perfect deal if you ask me. You can then use the profits to buy the enchanting items that you actually need, or use half of the ones attained by disenchanting and you'll break even.

I did this with tailoring, and found it very profitable. No way I could have afforded my mount without it, and a good way to make 50 gold overnight!
