I've been a double gatherer (skinning and mining) for a while now and its made me nearly 36G (I only have 25G now because I bought three bank slots). I just turned lvl20 last night and was wondering when I should start considering using some of my ill gotten loot to better equip my toon. I've been mostly equiping him with drops and quest rewards.

Keep it up! some of it depends on class, as some classes are more gear dependant than others, While I am not recomending it, it is not tough to level a mage/priest/warlock to 40 almost naked if ya got a ok wand. For the most part drops and quest rewards should do ya. After you get about 90 gold for your mount, then figure in the cost of level 40 training, then start worrying about buying stuff, but even then most purchases are......say short lived, and are replaced quickly.

IMHO the best stuff is aquired in instances or as quest rewards(with a few expeions and some epics)

Don't spend your gold just yet. Wait until you've saved enough for your mounts both of them. Your looking at spending roughly 700g for both your mounts depending on whether or not you'll go epic. A standard mount is about 90ish gold depending on your standing with your faction. The epic mount reward in AV is about 650g but that far cheaper than the 1000g it might normally cost.

just as a note, I play on a few diffrent servers, on some of them AV is just not a option, the opostion just wont start matches (becasue"it is not fair") and theirfore that toon will never get a AV mount, while on other servers, I am getting close to exaulted at level 55. My point is that you cannot count on a AV mount, depends on the folks of the other faction to start games.

So a regular mount is 90G while an exalted mout is anywhere from ~650G to 1000G? Thats a heap of cash! I've got a long ways to go!

Fitz,

Capitolg is correct on some servers it is very hard to get an AV game going. For example on Silverhand I've never played AV, Beldinn level 60 hunter. But on Crushridge I made exalted in about 2 weeks.

It's a toss up, but either way whether its 650 gold or 1000 gold for your mount you'll need to save a great deal of currency. If I were you, I'd try my best to just do instant dungeon after instant dungeon. It may feel like a grind but by doing so you'll get the best gear you can find for you're level and get exp quicker.

Good luck!

Thanks, and I do so love those instance dungeons. I always find it difficult though to acctually get any gear when I'm with a group. I pick greed for all items that I don't need, and whenever an item pops up that I do need, someone who deffinitely doesn't need it picks need and wins the roll. I'm tempted to start just rolling need every time I'm in a group where there's someone who can't grasp the concept of need before greed.

Well you know, really, nobody is ever supposed to pick need. BoE's are always greed, and BoP's are always pass.

What do you mean no one is supposed to pick need? Why'd they put it there in the first place if people aren't supposed to pick it? I'll tell you what, if I'm in a group and an item that I would use drops, you can bet your sweet bippy that I'll be picking need.

If someone rolls Need on a BoE item who doesn't need it, speak up. That's why they changed the loot system to need before greed. There's no reason they can't hand it over to you.

As a rule I usually have people equip things they win via Need roll right there on the spot. They don't necessarily need to keep it on, but as long as they make it soulbound then I'm content. There's a lot of people out there who will try to ***** you over on things like these.

Don't listen to people who roll Need because they "need it for their alt" as well.

Back to the topic...

Running instances is a fine way to make money, and it'll get you great gear so that you won't have to buy your own as well. At LV 20 it might not be as profitable as using your gathering professions, but when you're able to do Scarlet Monastery runs it will definitely pay off.

I actually just ran DM with my 22 warrior just the other day and I came out with a blue pair of pants. A fellow venturer noticed that I was hurting in most of my gear and had her main mail me a nice set of armor. Although now that I have three alts, my gold has dwindled from passing a gold here and a gold there to each of my alts, as well as my wife's character (who really appreciates the added funds), guess I'd better get back to the grind!
