Best type of leatherworkin for money?Follow

#1 Dec 27 2005 at 10:38 PM Rating: Decent
I am a shaman and could use the mail armor from dragonscale leatherworking but would rather use whichever type of leatherworking is best simply for making money rather than making armor for myself. Does anyone know... or is there even a type of lw (tribal, elemental, or dragonscale) that is best and most efficient for making money? I have heard that dragonscale has more recipes and is easier in terms of farming the mats, but I have also heard from many people that dragonscale lw is completely worthless and produces no money. So I have no idea what type of lw to train in. Can anyone tell me which one is best and easiest in terms of money? (despite which one produces armor that I could use)

For the most part, gathering skills > producing skills for making money. The exception are a select few items (which usually have semi-difficult items you need to find for them and you can only sell a few at a time) and rare recipes (since few people can make them).

That being said, Tribal looks nice for Devilsaur gear. Your profit (or losses) will vary by server

just going by stats, the dragonscale or elemental LW can provide better chance of sales because these have +elemental resists on them. you can't find too much gear like this in the common lvl 60 instances.

but tribal mats are by far easier to collect. the time spent on easy tribal mats compared to the other two, should also be calculated into your profit of money and time.

the last thing i want to say is, i see more people asking for a Hide of the Wild combine (tribal) than any other high-level LW recipe.

for such a recipe, you can ask for a small tip and im sure the person will be fine with it.

Moshaki,

I don't know who told you that farming dragonscales are easy but they are misleading you just a bit. Farming black dragonscales becomes pretty easy when you enter the end game instances such as Black rock spire lower & upper and the others. But trying to get scales before that is anything but easy.

I spent an entire weekend trying to get green dragonscales from within Sunken temple. Not a bad haul for the weekend resulted in an acquired amount of 20 scales. A far cry from what's needed to quickly craft and sell dragonscale items.

As I said in my first paragraph it becomes easier when you reach BRS. But not actually easy, you'll find you in competition with no just other dragonscale makers but general leatherworkers as well as just plain double gatherers. Everyone wants to get your scales so they can sell them to you on the AH. If your looking to make money as a leatherworker. Go into tribal, i can tell you with all certainly that farming the materials isn't hard and the items sell at a fairly good rate.

In the end one of the best Leatherworking techniques to making money has to come from the leatherworking / Enchanting combo. Early on this is a complete money sink so I'd go with skinning / leather working until 60 then dump skinning for enchanting. You don't even use the enchanting side, go strictly with Disenchanting items. Wicked leather gauntlets drop dream dust at a rate of 289% so you'll get about 2 of these for each de you complete. Not a great exchange at first but as you get towards seriously de items and your skill with leather working increases you'll hit the jackpot with Wicked Leather Headbands. Oh momma these are winners. Greater Eternal Essence & Illusion Dust are the very excellent results from DEing that headband. Wicked Leather head bands are also infinitely easier to create than the next closest created cousin the Runecloth Headband.

I hope this posted helped.
