trying to decide what to getFollow

#1 Nov 22 2005 at 10:07 AM Rating: Decent
I have a lvl 6 tauren shaman, and I am wondering what trade skills I should get. Im looking for something that will make me a bit of money, but will also be of some use for the items it makes.

The two goals are almost mutually exclusive.

It's hard to make any money with a production tradeskill. (one that makes items)

It's pretty easy to make money with a gathering tradeskill.

Gathering tradeskills don't produce items you use.

What I'd suggest.... Pick skinning as one gathering tradeskill and then pick either mining or herbalism as your other gathering tradeskill. Sell everything you gather in the auction house (AH). When 1.9 patch comes out you should be able to use an AH in Thunderbluff so you won't have to travel to Ogrimmar to AH stuff.

Once you have enough money for your mount at 40 = 100 g or so(and some shaman don't bother with a mount) and have 20 or so gold to buy some mail armor at 40 and 20 or so gold to buy skills at level 40, then you can start thinking about dropping one of those two skills and picking up a production profession.

Alternatively....

Pick herbalism and alchemy. Sell 1/2 the herbs you gather in the AH. Use the other 1/2 to raise your skill. Only buy recipes from the trainer that are healing/mana OR you need to keep raising your skill. Once you are 40 with a mount/mail armor/etc.. Then buy up missing recipes or "buff" recipes, etc.. If you are on a pvp server, you might want to pick up the swiftness potion recipe and the free action potion (I think that's its name) recipe to try to sell a few potions but in general you'll make more selling the herbs themselves than you will in trying to sell the potions.

In any case, you should take up first aid and probably even cooking (first aid = bandage after fights, reduce downtime) (cooking = heal up after a fight if you are out of bandages and also boost your stats
