Enchanters have to keep ALL their rods?!?Follow

My warrior just hit level 31 and got a couple of new weapons. I thought it would be fun to have my priest enchant them with lesser beast slaying. The components aren’t too expensive so ditching the weapons in a few levels won’t be such a big deal. But when my priest tried to enchant them he wasn’t allowed to do so. A message popped up saying he needed a gold rod. He has a truesilver rod in his pack but for some reason he couldn’t use it.

This makes no sense to me. So, a level 20 warrior kills level 20 mobs with his level 20 sword. He comes back to the same area forty levels later at level 60 with a level 60 sword and gets attacked by a level 20 mob. But the poor warrior can’t kill it. He gets a massage telling him he needs a level 20 weapon to kill the level 20 mob.

Enchanters upgrade their rods just as everyone upgrades their weapons. Requiring us to keep lower level rods for lower level enchants makes about as much sense as forcing everyone to keep lower level weapons to kill lower level mobs. The only purpose it servers, at least as far as I can tell, is to force enchanters to take up even more pack/bank space.

Is this really the way it works or was my PC having a nervous breakdown this morning?

By ditching your old rods, you can then tell people "Sorry, I don't have the rod for that" when people want you to do trivial enchants. IE When you have 245 Enchanting and someone wants you to do +1 Agility to their boots because they don't have enough money for the +X Agility to boots that is currently red or yellow.

Honistly, it's a good thing in the end.

i just let the newbie enchanters do the newbie enchants. like you said, minor beastslaying components are common enough..but at lvl 60 do you really still have those components? probably easier to pay someone 50s to do it on your sword.

and for the random request "can anyone do strength+1?" well yes i can, but i wont respond to you because i dont want to hang onto that rod or the components to do it..i need the lvl 250+ enchanting mats in my bank, not lvl 1-250 mats.

and also, if i enchant things for my alts, i pretty much give them the best that i have. a lvl 20 character with +7 or +9 STA on some gear pieces adds a nice buff.

As a blacksmith, I don't keep many copper bars around anymore either...

Components for all of these trade skill recipes are specific. You can't make copper bracers with truesilver bars, you can't make linen bags out of runecloth, and apparently if your recipe calls for a gold rod, you actually do have to use a gold rod.

Calabar,

You cannot compare this to weapons and killing mobs. It's totally different. Mobs don't require materials to kill them. Enchanting and other professions do. Just like how skinning requires a skinning knife and smithing requires a smithing hammer, enchanting requires these rods. It's just that enchanting requires different types of rods at different lvls of enchanting.

If you REALLY need bag space ditch the lesser rods you don't use. I, however, kept all my enchanting rods so I can do ANY enchant I feel like whenever I want. Noobs need enchants too!

Besides... its like 5 rods.. its not the end of the world if you keep them. Buy a new bank slot or something. Or you can get someone else to do it for you. In any case to answer your thread question: no, you don't "HAVE" to keep all your rods. but if you don't you can't do the lower enchants. thats just how it is.

well ditching rods just because you can no longer do the n00b enchants is a stupid idea.

there isnt a greater agility on cloak, only +3 so should you ditch your rods so you cant do that anymore?

although i agree a runed arcanite rod should cover every enchant, dont get rid of your rods unless you know youre never ever gonna use em. some low down enchants (like the agility on cloak) dont go any higher so limiting yourself to only high end enchants but missing out on lower level ones means that youre gimping your enchanting skills
