Is it possible for a low lvl, say lvl 12 Gnome to find tin ore anywhere close to ironforge...

the best place for tin (alliance only) would be silverpine forest. go into silverpine from hillsbrad the at the first fork go to the mountains and there should be a cave with lvl 20 undead and there is 2-3 tin veigns and 1-2 copper. while your there you might as well follow the road north and youl find more along the road.

for a pve server this is fine. for a pvp server, Westfall/Red Ridge/Loch Modan are good. when you get higher level and kill stuff in Duskwood, then yes that zone is good too.
just keep in mind, when you first encounter tin in Westfall, there will be more copper than tin. as you level up through Red Ridge and Duskwood levels, you'll find more tin but that is not at the teen levels when you wanted tin in the first place.
I can get iron easily when I'm level 60..but if I try to get it around 25-30 when I actually first need it, it's pretty hard and rare ore to find in the zones I can survive in. Closer to 30 you can find more but people usually advance in tradeskill to iron level faster than they do their character level.
Darkshore has tin and is your level... check the beach farther north and south... and close to the mountains. I remeber tin being a problem when I was lvl 15 and was just learnin... now I find it everywhere when Im looking for something else! Trick... buy the ORE from the AH it helps you level when you smelt it(probably already knew that) and at lvl 15 Im surprised you can afford the ore at the AH ..lol.
