There will certainly be new recipes for enchanters, as will there be for all professions.

Mining gems is a VERY good point. Those are potentially the best source for jewelcrafting. I would still bet that dusts and shards have a role to play, though.

There are 3 types of professions (I've put the Jewelers where I think they will end up):

1) Gathering
.. Herbalists (plants)
.. Miners (Ore, bars, and Gems)
.. Skinners (leather and hides)
.. Fishers (fish used as reagents)
.. Disenchanters (other reagents)
.. General farmers (dropped things used by producers and enhancers)

2) Producers
.. Tailors (cloth)
.. Leatherworkers (leather)
.. Blacksmiths (weapons and armor)
.. Jewelers (rings, necklaces, trinkets)

3) Enhancers
.. Alchemists (temporary enhancement)
.. Enchanters (permanent enhancement)

If you look at the producers, you will notice that the current ones can produce items that have a bit of power without needing an enchanter. Adding an enchantment only makes those items better. I don't forsee any change when jewelers are added to the mix. Sure, they will be able to make powerful, even epic stuff, but how is that different from a tailor being able to make a robe of the void? The profession won't put enchanters out of business, any more than tailors have. Enchanters have one big advantage over other professions in that they are their own gatherers, instead of being separate.

Note about enchanters being their own suppliers: when you do this (I know I enchant) you tend to lose a LOT of money because you get random loot dropped (not alwasy that nether essence or whatever you wanted) and you forfeit the cash from the AH. That's why nearly everyone matches enchanting with tailoring.

Well, if it's what I think, socketed will have NO IMPACT ON ENCHANTING, NOT POSITIVE AND NOT NEGATIVE. It will only affect the CRAFTING professions.

If it is then it would work this way:

- A new range of items will be made available for manufacture or drops, having a "Socket" that does NOTHING. Those will NOT have things like "x% chance to cause bleed" or "+x healing", or "+x defense" or chance to stun/disarm/poison, no procs and no "equip" or "passive" bonus.

The rest is obvious, you will be able to CHOOSE what kind of proc or your weapon or armor will have. Given the proper mats and a skilled Jewelcrafter.

For example: "The Shatterer" is a 1h mace that has "chance to disarm" and it's for level 42. It's the only weapon with chance to disarm. It may be your favorite proc, but when you get to 60 there is no weapon with that proc for level 60 and the shatterer is too weak for a level 60.

Socketed items solve it: I'll get a level 60 quality weapon that doesn't have any proc or option in it, just a socket, and I add the "chance to disarm" jewel in that socket. Now I will have a level 60 version of the shatterer. And I'll enchant just like I enchanted the shatterer when I was at level 40, or simply not enchant it at all.

Socketed items may completely replace the current inconsistent set of weapons and armors with fixed procs and so on, and maybe bring new life to blacksmithing, leatherworking and tailoring, but it will have NO impact, positive or negative on enchanting.
