Rogue, Alchemy or BlacksmithFollow

#1 Oct 05 2005 at 3:14 PM Rating: Decent
Hi all

Im currently lvl 25 troll rogue, with around 100 in both mining and blacksmithing. Thinking for all the lvls to lvl 60 and at lvl 60, what do you think would be better for a rogue?

Herbalism / Alchemy (potions for self, and for sale)
or
Mining / Blacksmithing (bars for sale if they arent used for weapons for sale)
or
Mining / Herbalism (bars for sale, herbs for all great rogue potions and such, like Blinding Powder, Swiftness Potion (have a guildy alchemist make it), Free Action Potion (same as Swiftness)

What do you think?
Can you make money of the later potions from alchemy? Ofcourse it would be a nice for yourself, maybe guild too, but can you also make some money of it?

Thanks in advance!

In my opinion, the primary rule for professions is to practice the professions you enjoy most. And only you can decide what those are. That having been said…

Unless you simply enjoy smithing, I don’t think it’s all that useful for a rogue. But if you do enjoy it and plan to take it to higher levels you can then specialize as an armor smith or several types of weapons smiths. I’ve heard some of the items are rather nice, but I have no idea if you can make any money from them.

I have a friend who likes taking herbalism and alchemy for his rogues. His characters are always loaded down with potion effects. He’s also made some decent money selling herbs and potions in the auction house.

I took the two gathering profession rout. My rogue took skinning and mining. This not only make making money for his level 40 mount fairly easy, he can also supply my other characters with profession supplies.

I would not recommend the combination of mining and herbalism. You can only have one detection type active on your mini map at a time. You could constantly switch between the two, but I expect that would become a pain after a while.

But like I said, take the professions you enjoy most.

Alchemy is the way to go. Gives you that extra sumptin when you want it and after level 60 alchemy is a trade skill still worth holding on too. I have a 60 druid that is tribal leather worker. I have no purpose except to make things for my lower toons I wanna build (for gear or disenchanting). Im gonna switch over to engineering since I already have Shammy in the herb/alch field.

Well actually i enjoyed it on my warrior on Zenedar (herb/alchemy), and i dont really enjoy smithing, its more like a pain.

So im taking Herb/Alchemy, thanks for your answers, they've been really helpful :D

Engineering is exceptional for one reason imo, gnomish death ray. TONS of dammage in pvp. Kinda a bad reason to lvl a craft to 250 though. lol

Alchemy + Herbalism would be a good choice, I know a few people who rake in the gold selling potions and such.

Blacksmithing isn't all that helpful in my eyes. Theres usually tons of blacksmiths out there selling desired rogue items at pretty decent prices (esp if you provide the mats)

Any type of LW is decent for low lvl rogues, but you'd prety much have to go skinning with your second craft. Even then, not a GREAT money maker, as theres still lots of competition for non-consumable items.

Enchanting is pretty good for nukeing any worthles green/blue/purple goodies you collect. Decent cash in the shards/dust too. But that comes at later lvls when you can start soloing instances.

Clothcraft, I don't see being much use to a rogue.
I'm probably forgeting a few, but I'm just speaking from experience. In the end it all comes down to doing what you like, and finding your niche. ~Pye
