Leatherworking question. My wifes hunter is getting up there in leatherworking and we were wondering what the difference was between the 3 schools of advanced leatherworking.

Dragonscale is mail armour, suitable for shamans mainly (int, spirit and resistances).

Tribal is leather and is more for druid (int and spirit, aswell as a druid only helm).

Elemental is leather and is mainly rogue (you can make a nice Helm of Fire, which basically, fires a flame from your head).

This is a bit loose on information, but that's the general jist of it.

torux is right..i dont even use the mail armor pieces that i can make on my hunter.

after getting to 300 without choosing a path, i still dont see which one to take.

if you find yourself in a similar situation, you can reach 300 by doing the wicked and runic patterns before you commit your character to one path for the rest of his life. yes, even if you re-do LW your character will already be on his previous advanced LW branch.

I guess I'll ask from this standpoint. Since I'm a hunter and the advanced mail will server little advantage (according to this post) what school will server the best profit. If I'm going to have to buy or drop all the higher armor I need, I'd like to know what will give me the most resell value.

Leatherworkers I know seem to make more money from Tribal. There are several 'set' items you can craft, aswell as the epic 'Hide of the Wild' cape, which seems to sell pretty well.

Im a tribal leatherworker. Money for me is mostly made from leather and hides. You find all kinds of people tring to level their toons trade skill in a day buying up all the resources outta the AH. Anyhow being a leatherworker really gets to be a useless trade after you get up there. "Yawn" rethink your future and go with a more rewarding trade that will continue always to benefit your character. Love it or leave it and thats my 50 cents.

Dragon scale LW - don't know much about it other than I herd it was the hardest one to do(2nd hand knowledge). Materials are tuffest to get, fewer patterns, ect... mostly rumors.

Tribal/Elemental - Great patterns for both leather wearing classes. Don't listen to people who say 'this one is for this class, blah blah blah'. Both have patterns Rogues/Druids really want. You need to look up what patterns each can make and decide what YOU want to make for yourself/others. In the end they are the about the same(different patterns, of course). You can make tons of money from both.

300 Tribal Leatherworker

i'm ~ level 270 dragonscale, and i warn you: dragonscale isnt particularly good. i hope they fix it, cos you cant really make anything good but the black dragonscale stuff, and even then your agility takes a sad hit.

not meant to be a critism or anything but i tihnk that these topics come up way too much...

either someone should make a guide ( Too lazy here) to herblore, LW, and enchanting (Cause those are the most discussed) or the Admins should create a permenant post that remains on top with all the essential info like the Main forum

I agree, today I have written 3 (of my 5 ;) posts regarding leatherworking issues in 3 different threads.

Anyway, I'm going to try to help :) Since patch 1.8 Blizz has transformed most dragonscale items into sets and has added some set bonuses. There is one which got amazing bonuses and suits hunters best. It is called Black Dragon Mail set. Have at least a look at it. The problem with this set is that it has not single agi bonus point, but on the other hand AP and FR bonuses are great (perfect for MC?) The rest of the dragonscale stuff is crap for hunters (except maybe the chromatic gauntlets)

If you just want to make money, take tribal. the mats are the easiest to get (remember dragonscale needs dragon scales and elemental need elemental essences which are indeed hard to get)

I agree with most of what's been said here. I'd just like to add that Dreamscale Breastplate is a new addition to the Dragonscale lineup. I took my Hunter into tribal to make stuff for my rogue and druid because, at the time, Dragonscale just didn't offer much for Alliance players, but this new piece almost makes me regret it.

Got kinda same problem, im a 40 troll rogue, and got 214 LW 274 Skinning..... I first thought i was gonna take tribal, cause i hate hard mats to get, like hearts of fire for elemental and tribal sells for good money.......
But know, when is aw gauntlets of the sea, and helm of fire, they ARE pretty nice... I wanna ask, what can be made by tribal whats good for a rogue?

So, with the updates come with patch 1.8, do you guys still think that dragonscale is the most difficult and it is not worth?

My husband is a LW and he's now going mad with the mats he must gather for Dragonscale school quest. Drop rate is very low and dragons are not found everywhere. Will it always be that hard to farm dragonscale mats? Is it more logical to choose one of the other two schools? If so, which one?

Thanks for replies.
