Most people recommend two gathering professions (Herbalism, Mining Skinning). But I took tailoring and engineering and was just fine for money. Blacksmithing is better for hunters though, and if you want mining you can get a lot of the materials for free from it. The trick is to sell everything on the auction house except for items with gray names and to put every schematic/pattern/recipe that no one else has up for at least a gold. Just finished tailoring at 43 and now have them both maxxed while a lot people don't come close till level 60.

engineering and mining are 2 very nice skills, engineering has some fun things to use in it, i liked them atleast, like making the tinkets and explosives, and bullets u can with engineering, leather/skinning can make some nice stuff as a hunter for the first 39 lvls, and some nice mail, like the tough scropid stuff for 40-44, or up to 50, but eng has some better things, gonna try both, since my 2nd character is gonna be leather and skinning, to see how good that is, but i like eng/mining

ok i've been reading around and alot of people on here say to like take a different profession later on in the game.... so does that mean that you can switch professions at ANY TIME as long as you can pay the trainer for them?

like say i start out my hunter:

mining/ skinning

i get 100+ gold and 30 lvls from that them i can go to like

leather working/ engineering

and still keep my other 2? or will i have to learn all of that over again?

Simply put? You sure can. Down side is you lose everything having to do with that old profession when you get your new one.

At any given time you can only have two professions. If you do like you said above, and take min/skin, leveling them so you get 100gp, then switch to lw/eng, you lose everything having to do with min/skin.

On a side note, if it's yourfirst character, I don't recommend Mine/Eng. Just because Eng is such a money sink it's really noticable. Later on when you're established with a big pocket book? Engineer away to your hearts content. Early on though, I'd consider Mining/Skinning (save the ore for when you've your 100gp), or sell it all in the AH. Or go sk/lw and make your own armor. You save alot of coin that way and can sell some really nice pieces in the Auction house for a nice profit.

Hope that helps and welcome to WoW (when your PC is up to it) : )
