Mages. What prof's?Follow

I've a mage alt and am sitting at 11 wondering what in the hell to go for prof's. Guessing sk/mi yet mats like those in the AH go for a shade above what the vendors buy for.

I'm just at a loss for good prof's to match the mages abilities. Tai/Ench i guess? Ench is such a money pit until crusader and even then you may not find a huge amount of buyers to make up for the gobs of cash you blew disenchanting everything.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks all : )

Warrior - mining/blacksmithing
warlock - Herbalism/alchamy

it just what you think is better

I do herbalism and alchemy with my mage (which is my main). I just wanted to try alchemy out, and it turns out its been a great help to my guild and all. Its fun, plus I always have a supply of potions for instant HP/mana on me, plus some other random things.

The underwater breathing potions come in handy. Agility potions are nice for some of my alts. Defense potions are good to keep me alive longer.

In the higher levels you can transmute, which is sometimes a pretty decent money maker, although you can only do it once every two days or whatever it is.

Well, there's the basic armor profession of tailoring. You can either go with tailoring/enchanting, or you can take up a gathering profession and just gather things to sell for profit (or to send to an alt). Tailoring and enchanting will let you disenchant anything you make or find and probably get a little bit more money by selling the enchanting mats than selling to a vendor (although selling on the AH might be even better, depending on what it is). Regardless of what other profession you pick, tailoring will give you a few things you can't get any other way, and you'll be able to make some pretty good armor for cheap.

You can also go with one of the two "universal" profession choices: Mining/Engineering and Herbalism/Alchemy. Engineering will give you some dynamite you can use when mana runs out, and the target dummies will be very helpful if you need to fight a few enemies at once. Alchemy is useful as well, since you can make extra mana and health potions and not worry about overusing them (or you can sell them for a decent profit).

And of course, you can go with skinning and either herbalism or mining, and just sell stuff for profit.

Herb/Alch is a good choice, as most people buy potions to use in crafting, not to consume.

It's also useful to be able to make mana, health and especially swiftness potions.

I would recommend herbalism and alchemy. The potions are very useful supplement to a mage's abilities.
