going to engineeringFollow

im a 40 orc warlock that is a skinner/herb but i wanna switch to engineering, idont want to give up herb b/c its gotten me tons of gold so im just gonna get the supplies from friends and AH, how much gold should i have b4 i give up skinning and take up engineering

As much as you like herb, there's pretty much no way you'll be able to take just eng and get all your bars from the AH. You can sure try, and if you were really pushing for quote, I'd say upwards of 750-1000 gold. Give the going rate for mithril alone.

Personally I'd drop the herb and go mining/eng. If you're lvl 40, money shouldn't really be a problem. Yet blowing it all on just Bars would be.

Going with herbalism & engineering is absolutely fine, but do yourself a favour and create an alt with mining & skinning. You don't need to level this alt very far to get easy access to the metal and gems you need to develop engineering to mid-levels. Assuming you are going engineering for trinkets you will have pretty much zero materials consumption once trained.
