WoW vs FF TradeskillsFollow

#1 Sep 13 2005 at 8:43 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, I'm ending a long time playing FFXI simply because it takes way too much time and I've heard from many who played FFXI that they like WoW better, or so I've read in some of the posts.

My question is, how does WoW crafting compare to FFXI crafting.
Any feedback from people who have played both games would be most appreciated.

If you want a FF WoWish experience with crafting, take up engineering/enchanting. You'll lose lots of money!

Nah, crafting is a lot easier in this game. However, the craftable items are usually less effective than random drops, and especially boss drops. You also get less choice in the stats/effects of the items you make (as compared to the potential selection of dozens of random drop items put up on the AH).

Anyway, it's easy to get crafts higher up... at least it has been for me. I've taken up Tailoring, Herbalism, Alchemy, and mining to 300. Enchanting has been very difficult. Never made it past 130.

I'll compare and contrast my experiences.
I played FFXI for over a year.
Durring that time, I lvl'd cooking to 96+1, alch to 60 and the rest around 30 average. I played enough to make me lose my tan.
Items used by self - a bunch
Items sold on ah - also a bunch
Est gil lost skilling up - 5 mil+
Est gil profit - 3-4 mil or less.
Thank god for gardening.

I've been playing WoW for 5 weeks or so now.
Durring that time I've gotten 300 tribal leatherworking, 300 skinning, 225 cooking, 275 first aid, 140 mining and 150 enchanting. I play maybe 3-4 hours a day, with enough time to maintain a non-translucent skin color.
Items/enchants used by self - a decent ammount
Items sold on ah - pbbly ~65%
Est gold spent skilling up - 75g
Est gold profit - 400g - 500g

WoW is MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to skill up in, and almost all the items are useful to someone. You can also do batches of items all at once (making 40 silk bandages? Ok, I need... Silk.. hmm how bout that. *buys some silk cloth from the AH* Now to craft it... NO PROB! click here, click there go get a soda and by the time you come back, its all done!)

FFXI you make alot of junk items to skill up, and also blow a lot of gil on crystals. (Lets see, I have to have to make pie dough, because theres none in stock so I'll need to make some butter.
So thats 12 ice crystals, 12 rock salt and 12 selbina milk, then 12 water crystals 12 rock salt 12 non-stackable flour and 12 of the 18-bajilion butters I just made... Then I can finaly make my pies with 12 fire crystals, 12 pie dough, 12 thundermellon, 12 maple sugar, and 12 cinnimon.
That makes 36 synths I had to sit there and click every gd ingredient into the recipie about every 30 sec. And all for 1 skill lvl IF I'm lucky. God forbid the AH be out of one ingredient in your recipie or you may be making a 30+min trip cross-country to find it. I could go on more, but I think you see my point.)

Over all, personally I enjoy WoW's crafting system much more than FFXI's because it's so very easy, enjoyable and benificial as opposed to being stressful, costly, time consuming and generally worthless like FFXI's.

I'm not anti-ffxi, but in this particular battle WoW whups its **** hands down. Just my Smiley: twocents ~Aet/Pye

Edited for improper useage of the letter "a" in the middle of a sentance. Gimme a break, I havent slept since yesterday. lol

It's true...
FFXI took way too long to level up ANYTHING!

That, and the economy ruined due to over-selling and
ah bargains...or so I've heard.

... omg if I took all those steps to make ONE items in FFXI... holy fudge when you put it like that I love the wow system.... only one problem and thats not with the system I wanted to know if this happens to any one else if say I'm making 30 sets of iron grenades ( not so hard to do ) ok after about 10 - 20 the little bar that lets you know how much longer to make the item... it comes up after a delay alll I do is move and let it end and restart but not to bad I was just curious does any one experience the same or something like that.

but according to what I've heard yeah I'd agree way easier and cooler then FFXI I use just about every thing I make pretty much or I sell them for a good price to others so I make profit... mainly thorium shells BTW I'm lev 38 and I have an engineering of 315 gnomes get plus 15 to engineering) way easier to skill up and none of the items are useless even if you can't use I'm sure somebody else can.... for a price

What has already been said and:

In FFXI:
- you can fail
- you can lose components(banging your head on the desk is optional)
- you have to do each iteration manually and put the components in the crystal window and there's a cooldown between each iteration

In WoW:
- you can either make it or not(depending on skill) but you can't fail
- you can't lose components
- you can batch craft an item for a specified number of iterations or until you run out of components
