DragonscalesFollow

I was looking at the recipies for dragonscale leather working and was wondering how on earth is anyone suppose to get the 20-50 dragonscales required in each of them? Dragons has something like a 1.5% chance of dropping them which means I would have to kill thousands of them for the required scales... correct?

Unless they drop them in batches or something...

Getting them as a drop is one way.

Skinning the beasts after you loot them is another way. (or did you mean 1.5% chance to get one when you skin? I'm not a skinner that's high enough to hunt dragons yet, so I'm not sure )

They sell pretty cheap in the AH though for black ones. I've seen them for 1-2 gold for a stack so they can't be that rare :-)

You can skin scales off of most higher level dragons at a better rate than the drop, but some (red comes to mind) are still a pain to get. Black are common because they skin in UBRS and that gets raided frequently. You'll get occasional drops of other colors there off chromatics, but there are world sources for appropriate color dragons as well (hinterlands - green, winterspring - blue, wetlands - red).

Yep by the time you get to make the stuff you wanna make you've pretty much outgrown it. The scales drop alot more often off of the elite dragons but good luck getting a couple people who are willing to spend hours of grinding nothing but dragons so you can collect your scales. Only way I managed it was making a deal with my g/f for every 30 mins she helped me I'd spend 30 mins helping her farm elementals for her LWing. It's a slow horrible process lol
