Dropping EngineeringFollow

#1 Aug 20 2005 at 12:44 PM Rating: Decent
I am a level 25 dwarf hunter, with mining (130) and engineering (158). Engineering seems to eat up everything I have, and not make much profit. Would it be wise to drop engineering for a gathering skill, such as skinning? I'm just generally tired of engineering.

if this is your first char, I would recommend that you take 2 gathering professions until you are near your end game, they make lots of money, and you will need lots of money on your first character.

if you have a main that can supply your alts with money and mats for engineering, then it can be a very fun way to go.. but usually only if you have the money to support it.

Actually My main has engineering, and he has more than enough money to live off of. Just sell a lot of the ores and stones you mine if you need money. You will be sorry you broke off from engineering for a gathering skill, as it is really hard to get up, but once you get 200+ It is really worth it.

I had the same problem myself, but then i started to make gyrochronatoms(don't know if you can make them yet) and selling them for about 50s on the AH. 21 iron + 7 gold bars = 21 gyrochronatoms = 10,5s.

I had this same problem, and at times I still do...

The best bet is to take a trip to Thousand Needles (if you are not on a pvp server), Hillsbrad Foothills, or a few places in Duskwood to get some iron and heavy stone, build Iron Grenades and sell them to a vendor, this will help level up your skill, and one grenade will sell for 5s. You will always make 2-4 Grenades, so that is 10-20s. I have generally not had much luck with the AH and my engineered stuff, so I use this quite a bit to get some money.

Another good idea would be to make an alt with enchanting. Do a few runs through the Dead Mines and send all your greens to your alt. Disenchant all the stuff you get, and sell it all on the AH...

I would agree that you would regret it if you drop engineering, especially with some of the stuff that engineering offers: iron greanades that give a 3 second stun; a remote to control mechanical enemies, and other things...

personally, I like engineering on my main because that is the char. I use most and I like to use gadgets and gizmos to my advantage....
