I'm levelling up my warrior alt - and replied to a LFG for Wailing Caverns.

When gemstones and the like come along - Malachite, Shadowgem, Lustrous Pearl - I usually roll and so do all the buddies I group with - on my main.

Anyways - so these guys are like hey - why are you rolling. toonboy always gets that stuff - ok why is that - oh didnt you know he is a Blacksmith so he needs that stuff to level his Blacksmithing Trade.

Ok - so we've had the Enchanters don't really need green thread - and the reason is because we all need money !! i.e. we sell greens for money at vendor/AH.

But I never got into a tradeskill need situation before so I wanted to know what other people think.

Your opinion (either way) will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

* Anyway it so happened that my alt is a BS/LW so I just said ok I am need for that stuff too !! - but it's a point of principle.

I agree, items used in professions should be rolled on by everyone in the group who wants to. If you can’t use it you can sell it. If you’re in a group of friends and you all want to give your gems to Joe Bob Smith that’s fine. But not in pickup groups.

However, that’s only for dropped items. If someone has mining and digs up some gems with his ore then those are his. The group did not help him dig up the ore as they did when killing the mobs. The same goes for leather and herbs that are gathered via a characters’ own skills. At least that’s how I feel about it.

Naah we never did need on gemstones or any trade goods for that matter when running instances. I'm personally an engineeer and I used to use whatever I found that dropped. Now I usually pass up everything except rubys (to make sniper scopes with).

Now for guild runs trade goods usually go to the person who can use them the most for the good of the guild (and that includes just leveling up their skills in general). Enchanter gets a lot of high level greens and such that we don't need b/c everyone has better...

But yeah, everyone needs money, and so those things are generally FFA. The only thing I can see going to a profession for a need is a pattern of some sort... that's fine. Also, totally agree with the poster above, stuff mined or herbed or whatever out of a node belongs to that person. If you have 2 miners or whatever in your party they roll for the node and everything in it is their loot.

by the way (and not to start a flamewar): what's your opineon of the hide skinned from the beast in UBRS?
Should only skinners with >300 skinning roll?
Should it be FFA?
Should it be roled only by those that need it for the quest?

EDIT: Typos

I wouldn't even listen. Window pops up and it's a gem I'm rolling. Like a previous poster said if there's a mine vein then the miners should roll on it and they get to keep the loot. Same with herbs. If you want to be nice and give it to them so be it otherwise just roll and let them boot you if they want.

I usually go like this...

If it comes up on screen and is not BOP, i roll

If someone says they need it, then ya, i will give it to that person. I used to not roll on anything i could not roll. Then I got in a group where people didn't follow this rule. I started rolling on everything from then on. When someone mentions needing something, I expect it to mean they need it to equip something. As for tradeskill wise, here is how I think it should be.

If an enchanter is looking for D/Es, then let him D/E that green you don't really need, but on the condition that he either gives you the stuff disenchanted or uses that to give you an enchant. Same should be the same for blaksmiths and engineers and such... IF they need something, give it to them or trade it to them...

Multiple miners and a single node; the best soulution is let the lowest skilled have first whack, then next one - on the same node - and so on. Develop a 'schedule' that way the nodes are shared out, everyone has a chance to skill up and everyone walks away with some ore.

Remember the group got you to the node, therefore split the resources that it offers.

Same applies to skining, herbing. Collect everything and just divide it up at the end.

OK that may work for guilds, however there is no reason why it can't work in all groups.

i hate when a group of players who are mostly RL or online friends picks me up for some quest/instance and because there are more of them, they expect me to follow their rules (like the one you mentioned about letting their buddy have the gems)

not in my book.

if that really becomes annoying, i can join some other group another time. buh-bye to the group!

If there are multiple miners, alternating nodes has worked out pretty well, at least balances ore received. Rolling would be fine with me as well if other didn't want to agree on taking turns. Gems you receive from nodes are yours! But most important to understand, as far as skill points go... If you hit the node, but don't loot, you still get the skill point. So if everyone understands this, each miner looking for a skill point can hit the node. Who ever's turn it is (or won the roll) goes last and loots node.

I think every guild pickup or not should state the rules from the start but imo this is how all loot should be handled.

All BOP... everyone passes and thos who can use as a upgrade does /roll or takes if there is no other person, if it can't be used as an upgrade eveerone /rolls for greed.

All other greens(including gems) are rolled unless someone calls need(and truly needs) if no one calls need everyone rolls.

All tradeskill items(skinning, mining, & herblism) are turn based for example if there 2 miners they take turn mining veins, as such with all other tradeskills.

Well that's how I think looting should work.
