Most hunters take up skinning/leatherworking or mining/engineering.
You can make some of your own gear or add to your bag of tricks.

P.S. Min/Eng = Money sink big time. Go into it after you have a nice fat bankroll to use for it.

I cannot agree with this, sure if you buy every set of plans in the game, or go all AH nutty buying Mats, sure then it can take money, but when my hunter was 32 I was a skinner/LW, i had 3 gold, and some midrange armor,I localised my killing to mostly beasts so I could skinn them and make some money/goods, and I though I was doing ok. but at this level I had a hard time getting a new ranged Weapon, one wouldnt drop, and I just couldnt afford to buy one AH style. So I droped Skinning/LW and took up Engenering/Mining, I chose to not buy patterns i wouldnt make or that cost huge piles of mats for a next to useless item, this menas no silly goggles(they are great for casters, but not so much for a hunter). Most of my leveling was form making bullets and the like, i saved a lot of chash shooing bullets that not only were free but leveld my skill. it wasent long before i had a hard time getting to the iron i needed for engenering( i just couldnt get it effectively)so i sold bronze for a while and when i got up to about 35 iron became no issue, soon to follow was mith. Mith bullets sell Ok in the AH, Sure you are not going to make a killing on them, but since the only items needed are things you pull out of the gound(free) one cant complain about the porfit margin. But the big money maker(king of) is selling stacks of iron grenads to vendors about 50 silver for a stack. As well as some vendor items that sell for a good price their are a few other items that sell well,Spyglass, ok only a idoit would depend on selling piles them to make big bux but putting one up at the AH every few days gets me usualy aobut 75 silver each. Scopes, with all the hunters in this game, Scopes Sell, it is that simple, every time a hutner gets a new gun(Bow, Xbow), they are a fool to not scope it and soembody has to sell em, that somebody is me I usualy sell form 1-5 scopes a week of verring quality, reciving form 75 silver to 3 gold. Gyrochronatom are used for a quest, and they are worth some big cheeze, i can pop a full gold out of a power core and a iron bar, the value of wich would be like 5 silver to a vendor. target dummies are a quest item too, so sell those, then their is the quest, it's asking a lot, engeners can sell hi-explosive bombs and unstable triggers for a nice chunk of change. EZ-Thro Dynamite II sells ok too, not quite the margin I would like but they sell for more than the mats sell(well to vendor). Mithril Casing sells for the chasing amy quest...... Ok this is truing in to a how to make money engenering post, and thats not the point, the point is engenering is a money sink if you dont take the time to figure out what sells, or if you just blindly belive what others say without looking in to it, or try so hard to level it fast that you dont get your own materials and buy form the AH, form level 0-300 I only ever bough leather, and got that dirt cheap.

Skinner/Leatherworker if you like making your own armour.

Mining/Engineering if you like toys.

Herbalism/Alchemy doesn't suck either.

Or go dual gatherer, especially if you intend to solo a lot. Skinning/Enchanting (sell the reagents) can be a good money maker without investing lots of time farming.

Oh, and to whoever said Engineering was profitable, if you're selling the product for less than you can sell the materials on the AH then you're not making a profit. Pulling metal out of the ground isn't free. It costs you time. That metal has a "value" (dictated primarily by the Auction House). Selling your assets for less than they're "worth" is the same economically as losing money. If you want money - especially from 1-50 - you're better off being a dual gatherer.

(Dual gatherer is boring as tar though. Skinner/Enchanter is okay because you're not actually spending any time farming, but don't underestimate the enjoyment you can get out of crafting)
