skinning ?Follow

I am a level 12 hunter, and my skinning skill is around 100. When I was about level 60, I almost always got light leather from critters and level 5 mobs and such. Now, all I get are scraps. Also, the skinning skill never increases. Whats going on here?
also, does it matter what color the word "skinnable" is when you are looking at a corpse? The ones I get scraps from are green.

For skill to increase the corpses need to be green/yellow/orange. Orange and yellow allow you to skill up each time you skin. Green takes several skins to level up. Grey corpses give you no skill. I cant give you an explaination for the scraps though. It happens to me too.

The obsessive compulsive side of my nature is showing, but I just have to make a small correction.

Orange = a skill point each time
Yellow = a skill point most of the time, but not every time
Green = a skill point every once in a while
Gray = no skill increase whatsoever, rather like a master chef boiling a pot of water.

There also seems to be high and low ranges to green items. When something first turns green we still seem to have a fairly good chance of getting a skill point from it. But once it’s about to turn gray it’s very rare to get skill points anymore.

Cal,

Can skinning go higher than 300? dont know where to look that up :(

no. at that point, everything appears as grey.

also, at low level, you just get ruined leather scraps occasionally. when you are a bit higher level, you get light leather, then light-medium, medium, medium-heavy, and so on. have fun. also the first post says "i am a lv 12... when i was lv 60"

that could be confusing at first glance.

Your base skinning skill can go up higher than 300 but with +5 skinning on gloves and Finkles(sp?) Skinner (something like that, it is a dagger) which gives +10 to skinning you can get it to 315, i dont know why you would want to or if there is any use for it

Alright i've been reading about the +300 skinning on other places and it seems that you can skin elite bosses and get special fire leather and stuff like that. I am only at 22 level and 170 on skinning so i have a way to go before i have to worry bout it but i like to know whats ahead.

Not that it's any secret, but in case none of you are aware, Stranglethorn Vale is an excellent place to farm leather. Grind against mobs and skin them, killing two birds with one stone. The only catch is that STV is appropriate for levels 30 and higher.
