I am a lvl 36 hunter atm, levelign quickly, I don't know many places to go hunt for thick leather atm, only thing I have found is turtles that drop both that and silks.

Also with Dragonscale, any ideas where i need to go grind for the mats?

thick leather drops from mobs 40+ and dragon scales drop from any dragonkin, usually higher lvl stuff in the badlands, searing gorge etc.

Good quesion,

Dragonkin, the color of the scales determins who you are going to grind for them. a short listing

Blue: Azshara, or winterspring(look for the blue guys)

Black: Burning Steppes, or BRS

Red: Wetland

Chromatic: Blackrock Spire

Hope that helps

just to say, if your making armor for yourself you dont want to go dragonscale. its not hunter armor its shaman for the mostpart. sure DS is loaded with stamina and crap, but whats the use of hit points and mana if you cant even damage your target? i dont have one DS pattern that gives even on point fo agility, and ive been working on it for some time.

That's a very good question and I wish I had an answer for it. But all I can do is tell you what I did.

The Black dragonscale stuff is not bad for Hunter. Some swear by the +attack power of it, but other's, like me, don't like the agi trade off.

At level 40 on my Hunter I made sure he could make the Tough Scorpid set and that was the last armor he made for himself. After that, he purchased or quested all armor. He's 60 now.

I did go ahead and keep leathercraft with him and took it to 300, but I did not choose a specialty. I am leveling Druid and Rogue alts, so he makes stuff for them and I will choose a specialty when I get them high enough for him to need one.

It was far cheaper to get to 300 on Wicked and Runic leather stuff than the specialties anyway.

I think Blizzard will have to do something with leathercraft at some point. It just seems very unfinished to me. Especially for Alliance.

I currently have 2 pieces of the black dragonscale stuff at lvl 60. I'm using them until I can find a better alternative. Though attack power isn't as good as agility for an end game hunter, it certainly isn't bad, especially if it's easily made. Now, I do agree dragonscale lw needs some buffs that would benifit hunters (some stuff that is compareable to the elemental stuff for rogues). I personally would go with whatever you want, as you can always find a ds/tribal/elemental lw that can make anything for you. It might take you 10 min of asking in the trade channel in IF, but that's about it. So what if you have to give them a 5g tip to make whatever item you need. You can still gather all the mats yourself, so you're still saving a nice bit of money.
