OK im a really big noob, i started... last friday lol flame/mock if you want about my questions here. I started blacksmithing/mining cause its a freakin blast, i love it, all i ever do is level my craft and nothing else lol. BUT i hear later you have to choose weapons or armor... whats this about? can you ONLY make weapons or armor or can you still make both? I dont understand lol. ALSO, what is more in demand a weaponsmith or armorer. Now, im sure this has been asked 5 trillion times but i couldnt find anything about it so please dont be like the FFXI trolls and flame me for, im sure, a subject asked a billion times.

OH also, on the tradeskills list it says "Grey" and "Green" what exactly does that mean? it doesnt specify. I notice that stuff you can craft turns green, does this mean you no longer can level off of it or does this mean you can consistantly make it. (i havent failed on a craft ever yet but id imagine you can)

Thank you all for answering AND/OR flaming ^^

I myself would recommend Armorsmithing; however, the reason is because there are a LOT more recipes available for an armorsmith (the Enchanted Thorium set makes my former Paladin self drool).

Weaponsmithing is divided into three subgroups; Axe-mastery, sword-mastery, and something else that slips my mind. Axe-mastery is key for Arcane Reapers, one of the most in-demand crafted weapons at the end-game.

Anyway, I would rather have great armor than great weapons; but again, this is a former Paladin speaking :-P. Think of it this way: if you get lucky on ONE drop in end-game instances, you just got a better weapon than Weaponsmithing could make. But it will take getting lucky 4+ times to replace all the things an armorsmith can make!

As for the grey/green numbers on allakhazam, they tell you when a recipe turns those colors (signifying next-to-no/no chance at skill-ups when you make an item). You can consistently make any item that is orange or under; you only fail in harvesting (and then you just select to harvest something again, be it leather, herbs, or ore).

Also, keep in mind that Blizzard designed crafting as a supplement to boss drops, not a replacement. Boss drops are almost always better than what you can craft (if it's a comparable level). Crafts hold you over until you can get great boss drops; this is especially true at the end game, where end-instances for wonderful items are what you strive for the most. These items will over-take your crafted ones.

Point being, don't focus on making one (seemingly) wonderful crafted item; focus instead on making a handful of pretty darn good ones that'll hold you over until your best items appear ^_^
