As far as for use, Dragonscale, but dang it is a pinch. Dragonscale produdes mail, you will want that! The drawback is the target group is 2 classes both shaman and hunters, so the stuff is split between needs of 2 verry diffrent class, while tribal seems to be suited well to druids and elemental to rouges. It would be nice if Blizzard rounded out the dragonscale so it had more stuff, but the Ranged attack power of dragonscale is nothing to scoff at.

It seems that there has been reached a consensus about these matters, but allow me to shake things about a bit again :-D

As a lvl 53 tribal druid (balanced - and who has the urge to go restoration spec for endgame) I must say that Elemental leatherworking would have been the absolute perfect way for me to go. I am currently collecting the "living" armor set and BOY! is that a nice set of armor for healing druids!?!?! not only do we get very decent spi/int bonuses (even compared to the Ironfeather set) but we also get that extra healing effect on spells which when accumulated will add up to at least 100. With regard to the Feral build there are some items in the tribal specialisation that comes to mind as being the ones to prefer (warbear woolies I think), but the Stormshroud armor is also Elemental...
So in my honest opinion I kind of think that with regard to druids the choice between LW spec's is not that clear cut as many would have it seem.

replies mostly welcome!

I must say that I’m disappointed in advanced leatherworking as a hunter. We only have one choice, in my opinion, and that’s dragonscale. It’s the only branch that can make mail. And once a hunter hits level 40 I can’t imagine wearing anything less. The armor difference is just too great. Unfortunately, from the looks of it Blizzard put dragonscale leatherworking into the game before they added hunters. Most hunters agree that agility is our primary stat. But I’ve yet to see any piece of dragonscale armor with agility on it. Granted, I’ve not looked up every piece, but what I’ve seen has been depressing to say the least.

I made a compromise on my hunter. Hoping that Blizzard will eventually add some good patterns to dragonscale, I didn’t want to drop my leatherworking. But I also wanted a profession I could enjoy. So I dropped skinning and took up engineering. Between three of my alts I still have skinning x 2 and mining x 2. So my alts can provide my hunter with the raw materials he needs.

I’ll continue to level my leatherworking, but I doubt I’ll ever wear a piece of dragonscale unless Blizzard makes some much needed additions.

I Personaly think folks get way way way too hung up on agi, and dont spend as much time looking at what it dose, the advantages are pretty good on agi gear, but what dose agi realy do. It increases Attack Power and raises Crit hit % verry slightly, so given a choice between agi and 2-3 times that amount in RAP(Ranged attack Power) I would take the RAP, mostly becaue it is garuenteede dammage rather than relyin on a cirt(aggro controle is much eazer on non crit hits)

Honestly
Black Dragonscale Leggings
Binds when equipped
Legs, Mail
320 Armor
+8 Stamina
+13 Fire Resistance
Durability 90 / 90
Requires Level 57
Equip: +54 Attack Power.

That rocks I doubt you will find any mail in the game that gives 9 sta and that kind of ranged attack power. I dont know, just me, while it is far form great it is not that bad.

Huh?

I play a orc Hunter (level 52 by the time of this writing) and I specialize in survival. Ranged attack power means very little to me compared to Agility boosts.

Ranged attack is where I weaken mobs with scorpid stings while they close in on me, after which I get dirty with close combat.

In close, agility means the world to me.

It affects my attack power, my chance to crit, my chance to dodge and my chance to parry.
Melee hunters need high values in dodge and parry to stay alive and activate their special attacks (mongoose bite and counterattack), and the increased damage helps us surivive by removing threats faster.
Most of the time in battles for my hunter is spent in close, so increased ranged power means almost nothing to me.

So I agree with the idea that hunters need some agility boosting mail ;)

And that's fine for you, but most Hunters specialize in ranged, it IS our specialty.

The Dragonscale attack boosts are fine if you're mostly grouping (for pvp or instances etc). The dps is greater I'm sure. But, personally, I don't do alot of pvp or instances. My Hunter is mostly a solo farmer (lvl 59, sooo close to 60) and I prefer the agi. Agi is the all around stat for Hunter. It adds ranged attack, melee attack, armor, crits and dodge. Dodge is a crucial thing when soloing, especially on strong stuff like Devilsaurs or Dragonkin, where the pet tends to lose hate quite a bit and the mobs hit hard. Hunter has very few melee abilities and one of them is only usable after a dodge.

My Hunter is level 287 leatherworking right now and I decided not to choose a specialty yet. Dragonscale would be the only direction useful for Hunter at all, but, as described above, I don't like it for Hunter. I am leveling Druid and Rogue alts so I make alot of good stuff for them, but the Hunter just uses what he can buy. So, I've decided not to decide until the Rogue or Druid just really needs something special. Wicked leather is the cheapest way to train to 300 anyway.

I'm trying find something that'll be decent to wear but more importantly sell good in the AH... I don't have much money, never really have... i don't think i've gotten above 25g and right now i only have 20g and i'm getting close to being able to get a mount. I was wondering if you boys could help me out

when u say Agi dont mean alot compared to RAP do you know wot your on about ???
I mean Agi adds to armour rating AND attack and damage caused by range and melee weapons. As a lvl 54 hunter (at this time) and soloed alot of my quests i would def put Agi before RAP. But thats the beauty of this each to thier own but dont knock Agi.
