300 Dragonscale - Want to go ElementalFollow

Hi all

Little background - I have currently got 300 Skinning and Dragonscale Leatherworking. I own pretty much every pattern you can buy for the basic Leatherworking, and a few of the rarer ones for Dragonscale (none of the Epics though - Chromatic Cloak, etc).

I cannot make any money from Dragonscale, and as a Hunter I cannot use any of the items either.. (lack of Agi bonus means even the +Attack from Black Dragonscale set is a poor comparison).

Take the average price of Black Dragonscale Shoulders on my server - 50g. Given that this recipe needs some 45 Black Dragonscales this is not even close to being a money maker.. now I know that I can make some damn good money from Elemental because I am in a position to farm for the Elemental Air, something that is considerably easier to do than Black Dragonscales with the current skinning rates of 1 - 50.

My question after all that! If I drop Dragonscale for Elemental I will obviously have to reset the entire leatherworking line, im more than happy to do this, but will I lose all of my previously purchased recipes aswell? Or once I re-attain the required Leatherworking level will I still have them?

I'm pretty sure I've read the following from other posts and forums:

1. You lose all your recipies.

2. You cannot change from dragonscale to elemental, it will default back to elemental.

This is what I was afraid of.

I am more than prepared to level Leatherworking from 1 - 300 again to be an Elementalist, but losing my 30+ purchased recipes is a real kick in the teeth given that I only want to switch master classes.

What you want is Not doable, Stop, Dont try it, you choice is for The life of your toon, While you may be able to drop Leatherworking, you CANNOT drop DragonScale Leatherworking(check you skillbook, you have 2 leatherworking skills) you can unlern Leatherworking, but the Dragonscale will stay, as a result, you cannot swich. You cannot Unlern Specilites skills, like weaponsmith/armorsmith, or gnomish vs goblin engenering. In the Games Defense, It was verry clear that you will be making a choice for life, Heck if ya didnt see it ya were just getting click happy(happened to me with Smithing, and again with Engenring, I finaly started paying attenion to what the trainers had to say with Leatherworking)

I think you are VERRY worng on this one,If your target is a even dammage output than black dragonscale is the way to go, so you are willign to ignore the RAP(Ranged Attack Power) because it is not agi? Now thats just silly, realisticly all you loose out on with RAP vs AGI is crit% and at about 1% per 40-50 agi(depending on level) you get far more dammage form the RAP since you get more than if the Items added AGI, I am not saying it is the best armor, but it is far form useless. Guess it is illrevent weahter you see Dragonscale as good or not, the bottom line is If you are going to stay a LeatherWorker then you are stuck as Dragonscale you will not change this, take up engenering if you hate Dragonscale that much, but make sure you know what speciliton you want for it.

Thank you very much for relaying this before I had to find out the hard way! Rate up this and any other posts I can find of yours!

I can see your point with the +RAP over Agi for Crit, I do generally consider +Agi for be better, but thinking about my Bow choice (Hurricane) the +RAP would probably add more dps.

In any event, as I cannot change (I do remember the 'for life' statements I just hoped they were negated if I kill Leatherworking completely and started again!

Once again though, thank you for pointing this out because you have saved me a lot of time and gold!

I made all theese mistakes with my main hunter, to date i have both a Goblin engeneriing button on the main skills list, as well as elemental Leatherworking, the hoot is i am neither a engener or a leatherworkier any longer, ya got to learn sometime, my mistakes were just pricy. I will admit that the crit that agi gives is nice, but then you are just hoping for dammage,RaP actualy raises dammage per second reliabley, every time,I love a good crit every now and then, but concistant even dammage like that form RaP makes it eazer to keep aggro on a tank or a pet, then again if you look at the game, most of the professions fail to give what the game can give ya, they do a great job of filling up the space when you cant get those quest items, but in the end nobody realy wants to buy most of what a skill gives ya, heck the best seller in LW is armor kits(bought a mount on Aromor Kit money allone).

...ummm im pretty sure your wrong about the whole "not being able to change"...i was 250 leatherworking and had elemental leatherworking...i unlearned my leatherworking and the elemental icon also disappeared from my skill list...so im pretty sure you will be able to relearn everything in another "mastery" of leatherworking...besides...do you really think that the game would be that unforgiving???...in my experience WoW is all about choices...if you can unlearn your talents (including new moves from talent tree) then why wouldnt you be able to do the same with skills???

Now you Say it can be done, How?

Why dont we actually try it instead of relying on what the game says. I too dropped leatherworking and my tribal leatherworking icon has dissapeared. Just because it says 'never' it may not actually mean 'never.' Try it and then we may actually beleive you.

I personally beleive Blizzard would not do this to us. That would be a real kick in the balls for anybody not 100% sure they will keep it.

Wot do you mean 'I personally beleive Blizzard would not do this to us. That would be a real kick in the balls for anybody not 100% sure they will keep it.'
Of coarse they would :) by the time you have reached a level to be able to specialize you should know exactly wot your after.
My lvl 54 hunter has gone with Dragonscale which i knew i wanted because it is Mail armour and thats wot i wanted, i too am upset at the lack of recipes for my class but im happy with it, our enchanter puts Agi enchants on for me so no prob.
But the fact is unless like wot has been said before you are click happy you should be sure about wot you want to specialize in i checked these forums first to see wot others said before commiting myself. After all thats wot they are here for.

No, your elemental leatherworking icon disappears because u dropped LW....when you go to relearn a specialty again all it will let u use is elemental... once u make the choice it is set on that character... you can't change it.

It's been done and tried for every profession with branch choices. You cannot ever change your specialization, even if you drop the skill entirely. You can however make alts and gather materials for them to skill up on.
