Newbie with a leatherworking question.Follow

Well, I just started WoW and decided to pick up Skinning and Leatherworking. I've found the Leatherworking trainer, but all she has are recipes for 15+ leatherworking. Where can I find low-level Leatherworking recipes, and/or a method to get to level 15 Leatherworking without recipes?

Well 15 is low level, but you can make light leather out of 3 ruined leather scraps, That should get you started. then start working on the pruchaed ones, so you already have the skill needed, just use it.

I'm doing same thing, skinning and leatherworking. 3 ruined scraps is 1 light leather. 1 light leather is a kit. Those recipes are easy and cheap skill. You start out with some recipes already, hit "P" I think then leatherworking to see them. Then look at those. If your Horde, at Wailing Caverns there's a cave above the main entrance with some leatherworking stuff.

you can reach about lvl 45-50 leatherworking by combining 3 ruined leather scraps into light leather, also by making light armor kits.

i recommend to do that versus trying to make some lvl 5 leather item 20 times to get to lvl 20 leatherworking.

I do not think there are any recipes before Level 15 LW. Instead, use what you already have, turn "Ruined Leather Scraps" into "Light Leather". If that doesn't get you high enough make "Light armor kits" from Light leather.

I am a total noob to the game so be gentle.

I am an Night Elf Hunter (level 9) and have just started Skinning and Leatherwork.

It seems quite straight forward at the moment exept for one thing. I have read you can make light leather out of 3 ruined leather scraps. But I have no option (or cannot see an option) to do this. I have no problems converting the light leather into the kits, but I am stumped on the scraps bit.

Do I need to be a certain level? do I need a certain tool?

Please help

It should be the bottom most recipe in your list actually, under "Trade goods". You should have learned it automatically when you spoke to the Leatherworking trainer and first got the skill. If not I guess Petition a GM

My suggestion is to not mess around with leatherworking until you're at a higher level. This is something I (as a low-intermediate player) am just learning and it's not explained in the rulebook.

You can always start up with leatherworking when you hit level 30-45. In general: at low levels, gathering skills can make good money (sell what you gather at the auction house, never to vendors) at low levels, while the only things you can make aren't worth having and sell for less than the raw materials that went into them.

When you're at high levels, the situation reverses: you can gather great hoards of materials and build up your skills quickly to the point where you can make the good stuff. And the money to be made from selling off your raw materials is no longer attractive--in fact, you might want to buy them at the auction house rather than waste your time collecting them.

I've been playing for a few weeks as well and settled on an NE Hunter with Leather/Skinning for crafting. I started as soon as I could at around level 8 or so and have had no problem skilling up either. I find lots of abandoned bodies from others to skin, and am currently level 16 with leatherworking at about 87. I'm wearing some of what I make, other than the found/quest items that are better, so I'm happy with that. I just finished the Moonglow Vest quest and actually have found a pearl in a clam shell, so in a few short levels I can make one (level 90)! :D So far I'm liking my choice and the way the crafting skills mirror the adventurer levels. For the OP, just start skinning everything you can and make the light leather from the scraps. Don't worry, once you get into the level 10-20 zone, you'll be skinning light leather more often than scraps, some of the bears even give 2 light leather when skinning. Also, don't forget to apply the armor kits to everything you can, even found/quest armor as it adds 8 AC to each piece. Have fun!
