PLEASE, MODERATOR, THIS IS NOT A SPAM.
EVERYONE ELSE, THIS IS NOT A SCAM.

You’ve been giving away your opinions about WoW for free. Now you can get paid for it and maybe get some goodies as well.

We are looking for small guild to take part in a study about World of Warcraft, being conducted by the University of Illinois. We are looking for small guilds that do NOT use voice chatting systems, but would be willing to try them out.

By being part of this interesting and important research, you will be rewarded with as much as $20.

THIS IS A REAL STUDY ABOUT VOICE CHAT IN GAMES AND IT IS NOT FOR PROFIT.

Please visit this page to get the details and get started.

The .edu adds that little bit that makes it more legit.

When you say voice, you don't mean over the game but using a 3rd party client such as Teamspeak?

We were unable to get the official endorsement when the study had to be launched.
Apologies to those who were annoyed.
Thanks to those interested in the study.

Thanks to the moderator for keeping this thread. But we'd appreciate it if any of your colleagues could return our emails, please

This study is being operated by the University of Illinois Department of
Speech Communications, by Professor Dmitri Williams. The professor and
the IRB's email and telephone numbers are given on the web page we link
to. They are also provided on the surveys themselves.

The survey itself begins with an informed consent form before beginning.
Participants are informed of their rights. In order for a university IRB to
approve a study like the one here, the study is reviewed thoroughly and
checked to make sure there are no potentially harmful procedures. This
study was checked and approved.

As to the purpose of the study, we can assure you that it is nothing
suspicious. It is accurate to say that it is an opinion study. Also, all
participants are debriefed when the study has ended. Lastly, all information
collected is kept anonymous and the participants' contact information and
identity are erased after a short period of time.

Thanks for translating this, StormnNormn.

Thanks to those who have inquired to us about this study. Below are a few things we hope could address your concerns.
1. The hardware and program are completely free during the study (if your guild is randomly selected to have them). The headset is yours to keep and the VoIP server expires after the study (but we can help you set up if your guild is interested in the experience).
2. We need guild actions, i.e., sign-up is done by guild leader or representative.
3. Research results would be made available upon request, and their interpretation would be made public when the study is completed.

Thank you all for your interest!

Thanks to the moderator and everyone else for your help and patience.

There was some misunderstanding about this university study.

It is a guild study and the sign-up is done by your guild leader.

The $10 and another bonus $10 are provided as the incentive for participation in the study. The headsets and voice servers are free to use during the study. The headesets are yours to keep (if your guild is randomly selected to receive them)

A note to add: this study only involves 3 short surveys over a month. We will only send you several reminder emails, and the checks in the final mail.
Thanks.

I thought this forum was about proffesions in the World of Warcraft, not studies on voice communication. Go the the Misc. Chat room with your study.
