Debating Herbalism/Alchemy vs. Mining/AlchemyFollow

So, this weekend I finally got up to 300 herbalism and about 290 alchemy. I've found the gold making treasure known as arcanite.

I'm now debating on what I should do here. I've tried selling potions to no avail on the AH. My other lvl 60 alt is a miner/weaponsmith and I just remember the prices that I paid for extra bars on the auction house. Where on a good day I can sell some greater agility elixir for 50 silver, I could sell a stack of mithril for at the VERY least 2 gold.

I'm seriously doubting the profitability of alchemy here, until I came across arcanite. Now I'm thinking I should just go back and farm ores and when I get an arcanite crystal, BOOM 35 gold.

Just getting frustrated with alchemy and making a profit. Sure alchemy is "great" for using the potions yourself, but I want an elite mount. And if I really wanted something to "help" me, I would have gone engineering (engineering in my opinion is twice the helpful trade that alchemy is - engineering has saved my butt at least 20 times on my warrior).

as long as you can accept the fact that not every char you play with have a great money making skill, it's more about giving it a go and trying it out. eg, on my druid, i rather feel he's more about alchemy/herb/leatherwork/skinning than he is about mining/bsmith/engineering.

so until i play another class, i may not move into mining even if it's profitable to sell some ores.

now of course, having played a class like a druid, i welcome playing a class like warrior or hunter which then makes mining more interesting.

the mail delivery system is great in that you can mail many items back and forth to your alts very easily. keep your current skills as they are, and try another char.

at the very least, like i tell myself sometimes..if i didn't have to play some uber-graphics game, i wouldn't have to upgrade my vid card for $150-200+. so if you dont play your lvl 60 char often, you won't feel the urge all the time to be wanting an elite mount.

in my case, i play about 3 characters at various times of the week. all 3 of them feed items to a 4th mule char that sits in ironforge. all he does is sell stuff.

i think in this way, i am able to keep what any of my 3 chars can use..and anything else can be sold. this will include green gear that an enchanter could probably disenchant for resources that are more valuable than the gear itself.

it's a slow progress in levels, i'm more eager to get 60 than you are since you're already there. but overall, i find it more fun because i can change play styles on those 3 chars, as well as work on different trade skills.

Well, as a hunter, i've never regreted alchemy, especailly as my engineer friend has me make his Arcanite for him and gave me a flawless arcanite rifle for the trouble, also, every bar he gets now, i get a cut on when he sells, so I really can't complain about it not being profitable for me, I also find that now i can farm a few more mountain sliversage at 53, im making a lot more more major healing potions, which so far I have refused to sell, 1.5/1.7 k healing is just to damn useful for PvP, almost a complete heal at my lvl=D

Also, theres a herb used for the Flasks called Black Lotus, it's bind on pick-up, so if you intend to make the uber flasks, yo'ull need herbilism for that.

I'm still tempted to have an alt thats also a alchemist, doubling my arcanite output=D

Hope that helps
