Scenario:

I started over on a new server, and I initially chose Mining and Skinning as my professions to make some quick money. At level 40 I am going to drop one and go X/Enchanting. But I've never been past level 35, so I don't have any idea which would be better for pure profit end game.

I am currently a level 28 Rogue and I've nearly maxed both Mining and Skinning. They both are pulling in quite a bit of money. Mining seems to pull in more Gold/InventorySpace, where as Skinning seems to pull in more Gold/Time. But this is just my take on it not having a char over level 35, and I could be wrong.

What do you think I should take?
Mining/Enchanting
Skinning/Enchanting

Thanks in advance (^&

Kesshi,

Looking at this from the perspective of just money gathering and without actually gaining skills for the sake of gaining skills. The answer to your question is Mining/Enchanting or Mining/skinning. Looks familiar to what you wrote doesn't it? Now let me explain why.

Mining is as it will always be a great way to make some decent gold. Blacksmithing and Engineering require vast amounts of the materials that miners can provide. Due to the frequency of high-level craft creation you'd be hard pressed to find a more stable gathering skill.

Enchanters can make money, but good money? Not really. This last weekend I had Icy priced for my weapon. the cost of materials for the enchanter was about 50 gold and the enchantment cost to me was going to be 60. A 10 gold mark up might seem like quick and easy cash but your relying on too many factors. For one, that another enchanter has put the correct items you need on the AH. Second, that you can find a customer willing to pay that amount. 60 gold isn't that much for the icy enchantment but you have to invest your own time into spaming around the AH looking for a customer. And lastly 10 gold mark up on that kind of time is really too little. It is entirely possible that you could spend an hour without finding a single customer. (This is of course dependant on server population.)

Skinning just like mining require huge amounts of hide and skins to produce the high end armors and equipment. For those that choose not to take Skinning/Leather working, they are dependant on the double gathers for their resources. Skins may sell for less per unit compared to mining, but they are also much easier to come by and gather more quickly.

To sum up. I'd advise you to maintain a mining and skinning. Enchanting is great fun, but won't make you cash as quickly or as easily as M/S.

Tycon has got it figured out, just stick with those two, buy what you need, or trade, most professions need leather, some both leather and metal, you will have both, as well as gems, everybody likes gems. The nice thing about doubble gathering is you are not part of the mess of producing anyting, why step out of that roll and bugger yoruself with a crafting skill, the doubble gather has the advangtage of not having to buy patterns or find a specific trainer, just do it, and profit.

Tycon is right. I would keep both. But it's been my experience that Mining makes more money end-game than Skinning. On my server, a stack of 20 Rugged Leather sells for 2g, while a stack of 5 Thorium Bars sells for 1g50s. Now, Thorium is really rare. But just as common as Rugged Leather is Mithril. A stack of 20 Mithril Bars sells for 2g25s on my server. Of course, this is all based on which server you play on. Earthen Ring is the only server I have a character over level 20 on, lol.

I am going with Enchanting just to have enchanting. I already have more than enough gold to buy my mount pre level 30. And I've been focusing on leveling. If I were to focus on making gold, I'd pull in an insane amount of money for my level. Alas I know that the amount of money you can make per minute/hour/etc. increses quite a bit.

Also, this is for a Rogue character. I can easily sneak past all of the mobs of low/mid level instance zones, and pick off what I want (typically the leaders.) This alone makes Enchanting ideal for me, for it will be quick to level to a moderate level. I estimate that 150-200ish enchanting should be easily obtainable at level 40 in a very short while.

I thank you all for your input. Unless I am swayed further, this character will be going with Mining/Enchanting. (^&
