2 Gathering or 1 Gathering and 1 Creation?Follow

#1 May 09 2005 at 5:52 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a lvl 23 Gnome Mage who is a miner and an engineer and I'm finding that engineering kind of sucks. The items it produces are nowhere near my needs. The mining however gets me some money. I was wondering if I should switch to 2 gathering profesions or do 1 gathering and 1 creation profession. Also, which ones I should do to get the most money (Is that not the whole point of a proffesion?).

P.S.: I know this question might have been asked by others, but I have not seen it on the forums recently. I apologize if it is a double post.

best money is often mining+skinning.

As for engineering, engineering is not a profession its a tradeskill. Its not there to make you money because 90% of what you make only engineers can use.

Well let me put it this way... what are the benefits of engineer and why should I keep it instead of taking up a gathering skill?

Engineering can help you in many circunstances, and give you extra options in combat. Plus its plain fun and crazy. If you like it, stay with it if not get something else, although don't think that two gathering professions will give you all the gold in the world.

well it seems like I should stick with mining/engineering. Now that I think about it, engineering isn't too bad. I just don't know if the money advantages of skinning are worth the switch. More feedback would be most welcome.

I already answered that question above.

Shoemonger,

Here's some additional feedback =)

Ok I would keep mining. This is a great money maker IF you don't use the ore that you mine. Sell the bars, stones etc, through the auction house.

For your secondary skill do one of two things. Either take another gathering profession or take something that needs no secondary profession such as Tailoring. As you gather cloth be is silk or wool you'll be able to transform that into goods that are highly valued. Such as Tuxedos, runecloth bags, silk shirts of various colors and many other tailoring goods.

Or use some of your earned income towards a different cheaper craft. For example 20 bars of iron sell for 2 gold (on Darkspear Server) where 20 medium hides are selling for 15 silver. With Mining and Leatherworking I could earn a good deal of money and still advance in a career in leatherworking. This is just an example. Depending on your server you could choose a number of professions, which could sustain another. Except for Blacksmithing & Engineering. Until you reach much higher levels, these trade skills just sap your potential income.

That's my two cents I hoped this helped =)

In my opinion this is the real question. We each need to figure out what we expect out of the professions we choose. That answer may well decide which professions you take. Is the whole point of a profession to make money? My answer to that would be a resounding no. I practice professions because I enjoy them. I’d be doing them even if they were nothing but huge, sucking money sinks. I know this because I’ve played in other games where that’s exactly what they were. But they were still fun.

If all you’re interested in is money then you have two choices, either take skinning and mining or skinning and herbalism. Sell everything you get in the auction house and you’ll make more money than someone with one gathering skill and one production skill. And once you’re higher level and have a reasonable bank account you may want to drop one of those skills for enchanting. It can suck your bank account dry at first, but later on it can make you a lot of money.

If you enjoy blowing things up or making fun toys, then stick with engineering. In my opinion it gets better and better the higher your skill. But if you don’t enjoy such things then you may well be in the wrong profession.

Agreed with Lienna and Calabar. If you're looking to only make money go with two gatherer's. If you're looking to help you along your lvls take up a creation which will help you the most (For example ,tailoring). I myself am looking into taking the gatherings up first then when I have a good amount of money I'll move to a creation which will help further me and my guild~~
