Hunters And EngineeringFollow

Okay, thinking about changing my profession. I've been an Engineer since I was level 7, and 40 levels later, I'm just not finding it as useful as I did then. Bombs don't help me much anymore b/c I can do just as much damage in 2-3 Auto Shots. And it's just becoming a pain, an expensive pain at that, having to pay so much to get my skill up. I hardly make any money off of it at all, except I do have one client who pays me 6G per Green Lens I make (large radiant shards sell for 7 on my server right now), and it costs me almost that much to make one. Even when I do farm the Wildvine, and get the leather from friends, Aquamarine costs about 1.5G each and Jade is around the same ... Only use I find from Engineering is the Mining Helmet with the +5 to Mining skill. I have +5 on my gloves too though ...

And worst of all is that I chose the line of Goblin Engineering ... and that was a big mistake. I have no use for bombs. I'd much rather have a Discombobulator or Shrink Ray or something like that.

But I don't know what I'd take up to replace it. Herbalism and Alchemy maybe? Heck, I'd benefit a LOT from Elixir of the Mongoose. Or maybe Leatherworking and go the Dragonscale route. That Black Dragonscale Armor is really nice.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What What What,Darkiron Generades seem to do ok by my hunter(225 to 675 Fire damage and disorients targets in a 3 yard radius for 4 sec),being able to craft the Best amo in the game isnt handy to a hunter? the new super scope that increaces your chance to hit not a puny dammage boost, repair robot, The big one(since you are goblin sepec)may not do the best dammage, but the stun range is huge, Deep dive helm rox for underwater assults. Discombobulator is not path specific ,it is a drop, the shrink ray and Net gun are both BoE so you dont have to be a gnomish engener to use..... just to make. are your using better than a Core Marksman Rifle ? the plans are next to impossible to come by, but making one is not as bad as farming for one equlvant(IMHO). The new Jumper cables so rock. Thats just my Opinion but if ya want to farm dragons for weeks at a time go the way of Dragonscale, their is some money to be made in selling the scales though.
Realy no profession will make or berak ya, but engenering for a hunter is a realy good mix, and if ya looked the only cool Gnomish things you cant use are the death ray(who cares you can crit for much more dammage and it wont backfire like the ray will) and the battle chicken, ok it is sadd the bombling sucks compaired to the chicken, but neither has sufficent range for a hunter.
Do what ever, I think you are making a big mistake,But who am I and why dose my opinion matter?
Good gaming

I am a gnomish engineer myself with my hunter and I think it is the best thing ever made. :E

Dragonscale leatherworking is not for hunters but for shamans since none of the items you can create with it has agility buffs (and if they do, they suck).

I changed to engineering at lvl52 from skin/lw which didnt have anything nice for me after tough scorpid set.

I have to agree that Engineering has been of good use to me as a Hunter. As mentioned by previous posters, you can craft decent guns and ammo throughout your career. If you push on in Engineering, you can also get useful head items at a much lower level than non-engineers.

I chose the Gnomish route, and now have a battle chicken, death ray and net-o-matic projector as well as the first set of jumper cables. These have expanded the options I have in PvP/PvE and group play. I have been able to feign death when close to a group wipe and then rez the main rezzer with my cables. However, being goblin engineering, they have also failed to work on occasion! Smiley: grin

The other items help out in tight situations and provide nasty surprises in duels and PvP. While I agree that Engineering isn't going to make you rich or vastly change your gaming experience, it does provide a few novelties that are FUN! Also, on horde side, I can make regular cash from Deadly Blunderbusses, Gyrochronatoms and target dummies, as they are used in quests. I passed the 100gp mark at about lvl 35 almost exclusively from selling these items, plus a few other guns and pieces of ammo.

Stick with Engineering for fun items and a bit of variety!

Convert to engineering here. I came from a 291 weaponsmith. Sadly it was useless for a hunter and no longer all that good in the profit market. I switched to engineering sunday evening and hit 170 before going to bed. I know exactly the things Ill be using and making and trying to get and I expect it to be extremely useful.

With the jumper cables I can help prevent wipes in raids/instances which is a huge+. Bombs for extra dmg+stun, few other trinkets for fun. And another big one, I can actually afford the thorium shells! Maybe someday making myself a core rifle or flawless arcanite if I can find plans for them. Get some guildie to make me nets for PvP. And of course the fabled green lense which I cna use one if I get a nice one or give it to my alt or my bro to disenchant for more money.

Its gonna be some good times...sme very good times.

Engineers can make money....easily if your able to farm iron in the Alterac Mountains. You can get all your supplies there to get rich. This is what u need to do. Collect all the iron and heavy stone which are the key ingredients for iron gernades. If kill Yetis or Orgers you can easily get the silk cloth which is the last key ingredient. If you farm that area for a while you'll find yourself with a good amount of supplies. Here's were it gets good. Since it only takes 1 iron bar 1 heavy blasting powder and 1 silk cloth you can make from (2-4) iron gernades at a time. Since a stack is equivalent to 10 gernades you can sell them to the vendor for 50s. I normally make room in my bags to carry as much as I can and typically Im able to make 130+ iron gernades X (2 to 4) potentially = 260 to 520 gernades which equal 26 to 52 stacks= 13g to 26g. If you have a mount its even easier to gather it quicker. There are other areas that are good for farming Iron such as the Badlands depending on your lvl. I've been able to buy epic items to new high lvl schematics and I had the money for my mount in no time. Also remember that you have a possibilty of getting aquamarine or jade which are the key ingredients for green lens. You can farm wildvine in BB where the old temples are. Heart of the wild you can easily farm that easily close to Gadgetzan south to be exact. Green lens normaly goes for 10g on my server. I hope this motivates you guys and see that eng is profitable as long as you look for a way. Dont limit yourselves.

Selling Iron, silk, and heavy stone to AH u can make more money then selling iron granades to vendor.
It's different if your first goal is build up engeneering
I'm an engineer too

Deedlith has a point, Ferel. I'm already at 260 Engineering, so besides the fact that I can make more money from selling the silk iron and stones aside, I can't get a skillup on Iron Grenades. And that there my friend sounds like making money from Mining.

I dunno about your server, but on my server, whenever I can't find the Jade and Aquamarine from mining, it costs upwards of 2.5G apiece for each of them. Wildvine is steady at 3G apiece. And the lens only sell for 7g ...

I'm looking for a way to make money AND skill up ... course, now I've got the Goblin Jumper Cables XL schematic ... but I'm too low level to mine Thorium yet ...
