Changing Armor Smith to Weapon SmithFollow

#1 Apr 13 2005 at 10:51 AM Rating: Decent
Ok back when i was at 40 i ended up taking armorsmith specialization for BS and have rarely used it. I got it up to 283 and didn't do to much with it. I recently got plans for the arcane reaper and thought i would like to change to weaponsmith.

SO i dropped blacksmith for leather working and then relearned blacksmithing so i was starting out at 1. GOt it up to 200 and went to choose weaponsmith/armorsmith and the i only had the choice for going back to armorsmith.

Am i pretty much screwed here? or am i missing something to be able to reset that?

I've been trolling forums for a couple hours and can't find a definate answer but I'm fearing the worst.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.

Your clear awnser.
You are screwed, I am sure on this(guildie did the same), but I got to ask. When I chose the goblin branch of my trade, the guy that gave me the "contract" was verry clear that i would "Never" be able to look at the Gnomish plans( and i read that as ever even with retraining, as it added a skill to my sill book, so not just engenering, but I also have Goblin engenering, so I imedatly understood I coud remove the regular engenering but was stuck on the goblin path. So my question, did the blacksmith for Armorsmith, did he give you a page to read and agree to "never" work in the other specitalions?

I seem to remember reading somewhere on the "official" forums of someone else trying the same thing. As far as I know, there is nothing in place that allows you to change from armorsmith to weaponsmith once the initial quest has been accepted. (Same for going from weaponsmith to armorsmith).

It sucks that you went through all that effort for nothing. You may want to try posting it on the official forums as well, and hopefully get a gm response. But from what I've heard/read they'll probably tell you the same thing.

I'm just hoping they'll come out with more armorsmith recipes to make it worth while, I chose the same route, and haven't been doing much with it lately.

In that case would it be better to make an alternate with the opposite Weaponsmith path ( a LONG PROCESS )...or just make a deal with a Weaponsmith/Axesmith Guildie on the plans so he/she can make one for you. Lets say plans for 5 Arcanite. It takes 20 Arcanite to make.

For the Arcanite, alts are a better idea, make an alternate character to go up on Alchemy/Herb to be able to one day make Arcanite Bars for you. I find that most of the time the Alchemists tend to charge a buttload (up to 4-5g) for an Arcanite transmute WITH all the Materials because they all KNOW U WANT THE ARCANITE REAPER or CHAMPION. If u mine a LOT of Rich Thorium Veins or buy off the AH, the alt/alts can make some Arcanite with Arcane Crystals at no extra cost. That or find a whole lot of NICE guildies who will do it for free.

Using alts, will take a long time with the 48hr reset but with 2-3 alts in Alchemy and at least lvl 30ish, it shouldnt be that long a wait. Perhaps 1-2 weeks.

ehhh...
So you make 3 alts, raise them to lvl 35 at which you are able to skill beyond 225 just to save yourself 1-5gold pieces per bar ?
Sorry, but that doesnt really make sense. Takes approximately a week with powerlevel support to get to 35 and that means botting another char ( if you dont have a friends user info you gotta shell out another 30 bucks for the game and then some for the monthly pay, aka REAL money ) plus a second PC.
Lets say you have a friends info and are allowed to use him for PLing your bots.
With my lvl 60 Pally I can raise about 4g per hour, while not in raid.
PLing a twink non-stop takes a week, if you dont wanna gimp him by not doing quests. A week if you dont have to work or go to school.
Ok, lets say you play your bot 15hours a day and are faster than me and do it in 5 days.

5x15 = 75
I can raise 4g per hour
75x4 = 300g

Lets say while botting you earned 30g ( mind ya, low lvl doesnt really yield cash )
That leaves 270g.
In your whole adventure life you probably wont need more than say 30 arcanite bars.
Alchemists would have to be REALLY greedy and take 10g per bar to justify that calculation, and even then you'd just about even out at the end.

And that is just for ONE bot. Triple that and you could be at almost 1K gold in the time it took you.

You had a theory there, but I dare say you didnt really look at the numbers.

getting someone high enough in alchemy to do arcanite transmute has much more potential monetary gain then using that one recipe. I would say it would be worth it for the cheap potions/other potential revenue gains from a 250+ tradeskill.

Someone did post this on the official forums and a blue did respond. And he did indeed say the same thing. Once that decision is made it’s made forever for that character. He said that’s why each character is told several times that whichever path is chosen there is no going back.
