#1 Mar 01 2005 at 5:25 PM Rating: Decent
Right.. i am just wondering is there a site or if anyone knows...

Whats the best item to make to sell.. considering the items to make them too..

I am currently making "copper Pants" for they sell i think.. 67coppers.. and use only 4 bars... the others use either the same or more.. and did not sell as much...

has anyone made calculations whats the easiest item to have/make and sell that for some money... to NPCs.. not AH..

Like a per-mineral ratio for money? Ooo, if someone had the time to make something like that, that'd be awesome.

Oh, I've noticed though, selling coarse and rough stones before you make them into something is more profitable.

yes exactly what i am looking for... with all the copper items... as in just copper bars required.. the copper pants are the most profitable...

hmm soo the rough stone is better kept as it is.. will look into that...

i guess the next part i will do is to see what item is best in weapon wise for copper..

is there a site or anyone done any research on the most profitable weapon/item to make and sell to vendors... ?????????

I just passed skill level 210 in blacksmithing. At every step along the way, I found that the materials were worth more than the finished goods. As the other poster indicated, Copper and Rough Stone sell well in the AH. If I remember right, stacks of copper ars were going for about 40s and rough stone for 25-30s. 4 bars for a return of 67c on a pair of pants is less than 3.5s for the 20 bars you need to make 5 pairs. To make money, I'd sell the bars. I kept trying to level-up to make bigger and better stuff. I found that it was almost always cheaper to buy armor at the AH than to make it myself. As you progress, the products you make require gems, rare earths and leather. Some even require leather armor as an ingredient. I chose the "Weaponsmith" specialty at level 200. Now I'm trying to come up with (I think the numbers are right) the following in addition to what the supply vendor sells:

88 Iron
56 Mithril
16 Gold
12 Moonstones
8 Shadowgems
8 Citrines
2 Black Pearls
28 Heavy Leather
4 Thick Leather
20 Heavy Grinding Stones
4 Solid Grinding Stones

The weapons I make out of this stuff (I think) get given away for free to earn the specialization. You have to buy the plans to make the stuff too. This stuff is probably worth about 30 or so gold. I sure hope it pays off in the end!

Blcksmithing is very expensive and barely if at all profitable until the end. But in the end it is very profitable and makes it all worth it IMO.

The only thing that really sells early in Blacksmithing is Green Iron Haubeck which i could usually sell for 3.5-4g. But in the end when you chose Weapon or Armorsmith the money comes more easy

I don't think stacks of Rough Stones normally go for 25-30s a stack when 2 stacks came in my mailbox yesterday for 1 silver/stack. Then again, your server may vary.

I think generally the raw goods will sell for more. People are usually buying to train their professions and so there is a higher demmand for that stuff.

I guess that doesn't really help if you are looking to skill up your profession and make money but since the topic was brought up I thought I'd chip in ;)

As a 300 armorsmith I have to say the comment about making money from late smithing is quite false.

Uh, this might sound noobish but gotta ask...

I just hit 200 today and I chose to go with weaponsmithing. However, I have no idea how I can actually start this weaponsmithing. Where I can get new plans, new blacksmithing levels or anything like that? Do I have to do some weaponsmith quest first or...? And what about that guy in Booty Bay? :x

By the way, I'm alliance.

To get the weaponsmith quest you MUST be level 40 and have 200 skill in Blacksmithing. You talk to the trainer in IF and select weaponsmithing, then he sends you to the guy standing next to the great anvil. there the guy will ask you to make a crap load of weapons. I think the materials for this quest are listed up higher in this post.

267 smithing with 277 mining, Making money doesn't really happen with smithing as your primary trade. I've found that having guildmates help in gathering materials is the only way I don't end up spending 20g on the high end items I need to craft the better items. Or I spend 7-8 hours farming elementals for the rare drops they give that are nessecary in every combine. So smithing is similar to enchanting, things cost alot because they are hard to make. But getting the items to make them is usually just as expensive as what you can sell the end result of your labors for. I personally try to sell my ability rather than the items themselves... that way other people pay the cash for the rare items, and then I make a return for the time and money invested in my trade. Similar to going to college I guess. hehe

the highend smithing profit comes under 2 conditions:

1) 1 you have a desirable item you can make (whitesoul helm, black iron shoulders, thorium shield spike)

2) you have a monopoly on that item and willing to farm what it needs.

I've found that blacksmiths can make money with mithril spurs fairly easily. The materials to make them are fairly cheap and I can normally find buyers for around 1g each if I attach what I sell.

In addition, you can normally find a pair or two on the AH under a gold, buy it and then sell it and an attach for the gold as mentioned above.

I'm at 212 and the only time I was some money is posting quest items up in the AH..Some of the stuff is very cheap to make and everyone is always looking for them...also try to pick up plan as cheap as possible. For an example I've seen the iron counterweight plans go up to 15g for it..I was very lucky to only get it for 1.5...I normally sell them for a gold-50s.. If you want to rip pple off then go ahead.. When I sell the counterweights for 1g(which isn't a bad price) I always tell them I'll do it cheaper next time. I have had alot of repeated costumers that way and even sold one to someone for 25s.

The items I sell alot are green iron helm and pants(BS quest)cause sometimes pple need one cause they don't have all the mats. Solid Iron mauls I can sell for 1-3g cause it's a dropped plan..

If you are looking to make a quick buck it's hard to do with any profession but I the long run you can make some go cash. Also get in good with a leatherworker and an Alchemist...you'll need some stuff from them when you get higher. My char is only 38 but I'm not going to have a problem getting my mount, Luckly I have a guild that is small and helps out with plans and patterns.. We always look out for each other

How about 2 gathering profs? Mining/skinning for example. Seems to be the best way to earn money. I'm a 224 blksm most have lost 200G on not selling bars/buying items.
Any thoughts?
