I'm a Paladin with the tradition one-handed mace/shield combination going for me. Since I started investing talent points into redoubt (+x% chance to block for 10 seconds after being hit with a crit). I have noticed my blocking much more more than before.

In three levels, I also get a skill called Holy shield, which boosts my blocking by another 30%. I should have around a 65% blocking rate every time I get crit'ed ^_^.

I have heard that you can attach spikes to shields to do extra damage each time you block. I would like someone to explain this process to me, and advise me on what spikes need what levels, how much the operation approximately costs, and how useful it is. Thank you very much ^_^

There are a few different types of shield spikes that are player crafted with blacksmithing. The lowest level is iron shield spike which does 8 to 12 points of damage each time you block. The enemy should take damage with any block you do (partial or full) I believe. The next level is mithril shield spike. It does between 16 and 20 I think. I see a few up for sale but constantly get outbid. In order to put a shield spike on a shield, a blacksmith must attach it. I don't know what levels are needed but with you being able to block so well, I would recommend at least an iron shield spike. They should sell for about 50sp I would guess. Mithril sell for about 1.5gp.
