Anyone know any good spots to find black pearls?
I've looked here on alla and on thotbot and the drop info is not the same at all.
I'm just wondering if anyone has actually acquired one of these without going through the AH. If so, where did you get one?

PS - This is a required item to finish the Weaponsmith quest. I believe it also is an important ingredient for enchanters as well.

I've obtained them by killing level 44-45ish sea monsters (naga, murlocs, etc) and opening the clams they drop. Might have got some off some level 40-44 mobs as well, but I can't remember for sure.
You can also get them from Big Mouth Clams you fish up in Feathermoon, or from getting those clams off Naga in the northern part of southern island by Feathermoon.
I've gotten them consistently ( and most safely ) from the clams held by the crawlers along the coastline in the Swamp Of Sorrows. A few level 44+ crocs along the way but mostly just populated with level 40 - 44 crawlers for the first half of the coastline ( from north to south .. the southern half has quite a few murloc types ). If you crawl up too far along the bank in to the swamplands you'll find stealthed panthers, so watch your step if the area is a little tough for you. There may be other areas with similar crawler populations but i've not found black pearls from clams on crawlers of any level below 40.

The Naga near booty bay drop clams which contain black pearls occasionally.
i picked up about 8 of those lil buggers on the island just south of feathermoon from the nagga in the caves their..and they rolled over pretty eazy for me at level 42. I was happy i got over 2 g out of em @ the AH... and i bet i made some smith very happy
