Ask your herbalism, Alchamey questions here.Follow

Would it be possible to start a sticky thread that states the basic questions everyone has.... which seems to be where to get trained past xyz level? Something like...

Horde Alchemy
Apprentice (1-75) = Undercity, Orgimar, Thunderbluff
Journeyman (75-150) = Undercity, Orgimar, Ratchet
Artisian (150-200) = Swamp, Brill

Alliance Alchemy
Apprentice (1-75) = Ironforge, Durnhold
Journeyman (75-150) = Ironforge, Black Mountains
Artisian (150-200) = Scarlet Monestary, Black Rock Keep

Ovisously the names and terms arent correct but just wanted to show what I am talking about... ;)

Can we even do stickies on this message board?

Maybe after getting all the trained information up we can start building a table to show ideal zones for certain herbs. Just something at a glance to view all this info instead of having to read through 100s of posts to find the gold nugget?

Best place for major healing is not un'goro, although i did have some luck there, but Azshara is by far the best place. I really don't know why i'm saying this.. gonna take all my herbs now.. BAH.

Also, i sold a stack of 5 major healing potions for 2 g, and it sold quick...I normally dont sell anything, for one; money isnt so hard to get, and another, I give to my guild for free so i'm constantly out. But when i take the time to farm them i make 10-15 at a time :S Before i get bored.

I just hit Alchemy 198 but since about 170 I haven't been able to train any new recipes. According to the strategy guid I should have been able to train a few. I have checked with trainers in Unercity, Hillsbraid, Thunder Bluff, and Ogrimmar with no luck. Am I crazy or am I missing something?

    Bellatrix,

I found the most of my new potion recipies (Alchemy around 220) from the Artisan Alchemist in Undercity.

The rest I get from friends and from the Auction House. I just paid 3.5 gp for Mighty Troll's Blood but I think it was very worth it.

    Good luck.

Once you get your fishing to 150 or more I found that oily blackmouths are in abundant at BoothBay. Good fishing there.

I see stranglekelp underwater in lots of locations. Most recently, along the coast in Southshore or in the Loch Modan lake.

Do not listen to Linyenya. You need to go to Altrix at the Cannibal Bar and Grill in Altoona Mexico. She tells people this becuase she has a big Ole Unibrow.

Best place I have found for both stranglekelp AND fishing for Oily Blackmouth and Firefin Snapper is Zoram Strand on the west end of Ashenvale in Kalimdor. There are several spawn points for the herb in the water offshore, and other spawns to the north into Darkshore. The naga on the beach are 18-20 and there are other mobs in the water that decrease in level as you go north to Darkshore.

This area works for both Horde and Alliance - there's a Horde outpost on the south end of the beach with a wyvern master, and Astranaar is close with a griffon master for Alliance. The stranglekelp spawns in the water offshore, so both factions can search for it in the area. If you want to fish, go to the south shore of the long inlet that runs east-west into the beach; you can stand on the south shore on the inland end of that inlet with no mobs pathing by and fish in peace for hours, in you like.

Alliance can also find stranglekelp in Menethil Harbor in Wetlands, but you have to deal with level 24-29 murlocs there.

You can also fish for oily blackmouth in Ratchet in the Barrens, but that location is lower level so you get a lower rate of blackmouth and almost no firefin snapper.

Strangle Kelp can be found in Darkshore by the Auberdine harbour or the Zorand Strand which is good for both Horde and Alliance.

At 25 Wild Steelbloom is hard to come by. Your best bets are the Charred Vale in Stonetalon and the excavation site in the wetlands.

There's at least 8 Steelbloom spawns in the hills around the dig and the orc camp in the Wetlands. There's also quite a lot of Steelbloom in Arathi Highlands. Check rocky places, it grows high and inaccessible.

Just reached lvl 204 in Alchemy. Need to know where to find/buy goldthorn as a lvl 33 Paly. Need the thorn to continue to lvl in Alch. I have looked up where this herb seems to be but it appears the areas are above my lvl. Any help would be great.

Plenty of Goldthorn in Stranglethorn Vale and Arathi Highlands. Both are level-appropriate for you although you may want to stay in northern STV, it gets a lot tougher in the south and it's a pain to be jumped by stealther level 38 mobs while trying to harvest.

Does anybody have a good spot for Wintersbite?
    #42 Mar 25 2005 at 8:28 AM Rating: Decent
Loads of Wintersbite in Swamp of sorrows.
Picked up a fair amount of Goldthorn there as well

What part of Swamp of Sorrows has Wintersbite? I've only heard of some cooooold high-level places with it; all I've ever seen in SoS is a lot of blindweed (great way to go from 270ish-300, btw). Although there is some goldthorn, kadghar's whisker, and kingsblood around too. Oh, and a ton of Liferoot.

Anyone know where to catch Stonescale Eels? I think that's the name of them. Also, what fishing skill? I need some oil from them for my high-level alchemy recipes (like the level 300 Flask of Petrification).

Wintersbite is from Alterac Mountains. Icecap is from Winterspring. Sorry, but do not know where Stonescale Eels are from either.

I'm a 25 Priest(Alliance). My alchemy is up to 225 and my herbalism is 190-ish. I've heard people state back and forth that you have to be lvl 35, or 40 to reach Artesian. I have completed all training spells in alchemy up to 225 and this was done just prior to making lvl 24. I know that Feathermoon is my next objectine, however, is it true that I have to wait until I reach lvl 35 until I train for the Master title? If not, I'll have some friends help me to the area and start the training. Your expertise in the area is needed here. Thanks!!

    ***NEWS FLASH****
I have read the above passages and have seen the light!!! NOW I understand. Looks like I'm back to Astrannar to do more questing until I reach 35. Good luck to all of you!!

Stonescale Eels, I caught them in Feathermoon, right off the dock. I assume they are available in other areas of Feralas.

And I have seen Wintersbite in the snow, by the Yeti in Arathi Highlands.

I also have a question. How does one get these skills up past 300?

Allakhazam is a bit vague when it comes to these skills. It says when they turn green and grey, but that's not when you can use them. As a rule of thumb, all flasks and the alchemist's stone are level 300 alchemy requirements. At this time there is no way (and no recipes) that require a 300+ skill.

Also, yes, I have found Wintersbite in Alterac, although it's not really good for any potions I use. Also, I'm curious about all the people needing Firefin Snappers and Oily Blackmouths. Besides underwater breating potions, I never used OBs, and I haven't used Firefins except to make some Oil of Immolation for fun. In truth, I just want Stoneskin Eels so I have a supply of the oil needed for a flask of petrification later on (I believe you need 30 oils... ouch).

I posted in the official alchemy/herbalism thread, but the final recipes involve both the alchemists' Stone and the Alchemy Lab. The Alchemists' Stone is NOT the Philosopher's Stone (I keep seeing people make this mistake). The Alchemist's Stone is a level 300 alchemy required BoP item that you make at the max level. It is a trinket that increases the healing effect of potions by 33%, and it is needed for all the flasks. The recipe drops in high-level instances, I believe... but no one knows for sure. Thottbot has NO information on it. Also you need to be at the alchemy lab in Scholo. Yummy. Since the flasks exist... the alchemists' stone must exist, as well as the recipe for it.

Be a Tauren to get Herbalism above 300. They get +15 added on to their level just for fun.

"Be a Tauren to get Herbalism above 300. They get +15 added on to their level just for fun. "

    Wonderful, but I was talking about alchemy above 300 ^_^;

Also, I don't believe there are any herbs that need over 300 skill to pick. So far, the only professions that need above 300 skill are skinning and fishing. For skinning, you need a special knife to get a Pristine Hide or something for a VERY expensive item (after collecting very rare supplies, you pay the NPC 300 gold to make you an item). In Fishing, with high-level spots you need Bait and an improved rod (well, you don't need a new rod, but +5 skill helps, I suppose). The Aquadynamic thingy improves your skill by... I want to say 150 for 5 minutes. That's enough to fish anywhere at 300 skill.

    So, yes, Tauren can get to 315 herbalism, but there is no reason to (as of yet). But you don't need above 300 skill in alchemy to make anything; just 300 and some very rare items ^_^;
