When you enter a BCNM such as BCNM30, you can only bring 3 party members into the BCNM fight. This is understood, but does that prevent you from having a larger party overall. For instance, if I have a party of six, can I send three of my party members in to fight the BCNM while keeping 3 party members outside? The reason I ask is because each person added to the party increases the odds of getting a drop. So, for BCNM30, I could have a party of 6 people... 3 for fighting the BCNM and perhaps 3 thieves also in the party but not participating in the fight. Obviously, if possible, this would be a huge benefit when trying to get rare drops from BCNMs. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks. -- Malidar

Yea, you can have three people in pt sitting outside the BC, but as far as that increasing your drops.....yea, not going to happen.

That's actually not true, it was a rumor that started out of a misunderstanding of one of the theories on TH in the thief forums. It's fairly easy to disprove. The theory is that each person gets a chance at the drop, so the amount that the odds would go up by adding a person would be very, very visible on items with fairly high drop rates. You can wander out and go farming for a couple of hours and show that it doesn't change at all, though.

Well, if it is a rumor, then it probably came from this source:

The above URL shows a screenshot of a discussion with a GM.

And, in any case... SE does specifically say that if a THF is in the party... then the entire party has Treasure Hunter. So, one THF sitting outside a BCNM should help the party get better drops. The reason I ask is because certain BCNM's are best fought with specific party setups and THF isn't always part of that setup. The URL below shows the interview with SE in which Treasure Hunter is mentioned.

From my understanding, TH doesn't help with drops in BCNMs, I think it's just completely random what you get. On the offchance that it does...well then my TH would need a severe overhaul then....and lol, it's bad enough that we're TH whores endgame....now we're being considered for TH whores on BCNMs....

Heh, GMs are specifically forbidden to answer questions like that, not because the developers want it secret, but because they don't know the answers. They don't know any more than players do.

I don't know that I'd call it THF whoring. I just don't want to sit for days camping certain NM's and struggling to find parties to do BCNM's. If I can find a better way to ensure drops, then that's what I'm going to do. I refuse to buy gil from gillsellers which is why I'm broke right now. I can't afford a 3 million gil pair of boots. I wouldn't be doing BCNM's for gil anyway. I don't have the beastman's seals to do them for both gil and necessary equipment. I've killed leaping lizzie over 20 times with no drop so I'm getting very frustrated. Consequently, I am leveling THF as we speak.
