Screwy AH PricesFollow

Ok, so I’ve been looking to level my woodworking. I’m level 12 right now. Ugh. I have a long way to go. Anyway, I’ve read that level 12 through 17 are very easy to level because you can synth status bolts such as Acid Bolts. So, I go to buy Acid Bolt Heads and I’m very surprised to see they cost 100,000gil for a stack of 99 bolt heads. (San d’Oria AH). Ok, so then I check to see what the price of a stack of Acid Bolts costs and what I find is very confusing. They’re only selling for around 6,000gil a stack.

So, my question is this; how could the acid bolt heads sell for 100k when the acid bolts themselves only sell for 6k? I noticed that all of the status bolts appear to be similar. There is absolutely no way anyone could afford to make Acid Bolts when they’re taking a loss of 94,000gil.

Does anyone have any thoughts or insight into this? Thank you in advance. -- Malidar

99 bolt heads will craft you 99 synths which makes 33 bolts each. So if no breaks you'd make 33 stacks of acid bolts.

Now that sounds more worthwhile. So, 6k x 33 = 198,000. Thank you very much. I guess I just assumed 99 Acid Bolt Heads would make 99 Acid Bolts. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm assuming you're reading an older woodworking guide. Acid bolt heads used to to stack to 12 only and Acid Bolts used to sell very quickly due to everyone and their brother leveling RNG.

Since the RNG nerf, Woodworking, while still potentially profitable, changed. Many of the guides out there failed to adapt with the times, and you'll miss out on some of the profit synths if you blindly follow them. Occasionally, you'll lose money where you could have profited instead if you simply pay attention to trends in the marketplace.

My advice- check http://ffxi.cannotlinkto/recipedb/ and search for recipes you can skill up on. Go to the AH and work out the costs, including figuring out what NPCs will sell and what you're able to acquire by farming, harvesting, etc.

That is the key to truly learning your craft. Research and learn how to do the most profitable synths as cheaply as possible. Then be patient and wait to sell everything, investing all your profits back into the craft and subcrafts if possible.
