New way to get cool weapons/gear? Seems like. They are trying to keep it Rare/Ex also.

Pokiehl finds a "??? Body Armor"!!
Pokiehl gets it appraised!
Pokiehl recieves a.....Bronze harness.
Pokiehl changes job to ranger and walks into the nearest Auction Delivery Services building.

Something tells me that I'm going to be VERY disapointed with this new system, while others will be extremely lucky with it. Reminds me of PSO and rares. Woot! Another....Club of Laconium.....

Anyone here remember the first Diablo?

You'd start off by killing stuff down in the dungeon. Every now and then you'd find an unnamed piece of equipment; from there, you have two options:

1) Equip it
2) "Appraise" it (using FFXI terms)

If you equip it, you'll see what it is immediately. Unfortunately, a lot of items were cursed...they not only gave negative stats, but they could not be unequipped unless you paid a LOT of money to a person back in town (assuming you ever made it back).

However, you could safeguard yourself by appraising it first. The first option would be to cart it back to town and have an NPC do it (for a fee). The second was to use an appraisal scroll. Doing it from the NPC was 100% success, but doing it on your own (via a scroll) could lead to the accidental distruction of the item.

To me, this sounds an aweful lot like SE is copying Diablo. But hey, I actually enjoyed that game :D

As has been posted on other forums, this idea of Appraisal goes back to MUD's and very old school games, not a copy off Diablos or anything of the sort.

Never heard of MUD's. I was merely pointing out that the description (as given by SE) sounds almost exactly like what you used to do in Diablo...a game that came out like 15 years ago.

edit: MUD = Multi-User Dungeon. Diablo = one big friggin dungeon with a lot of users. Sounds the same to me :D

This appraiser idea can be found in other RPGs, one that I know of was the Wizardry series, basically the same idea where you find a ??? armor/weapon and can either equip it, which may lead to being cursed and have to have it removed at the shrine or go into town and have an npc appraise it for you. Also if you had the Bishop class in your pt they could appraise w/o making you travel back into town.

Appraiser>> This is an interesting find, Mr. Skibum.
Appraiser>> However it will cost 500,000 gil to determine its' value.

The Appraiser starts cleaning the ??? Body Armor.
Appraiser>> Oh! A most interesting find indeed!
Appraiser>> However you are unable to equip the Kirin's Osode so I will be unable to provide you with the item.

Appraiser>> Do you wish to have another item appraised?

Sounds a little like how EQ2 does armor. You get armor and the stats do not kick in until you "Attune it", but once attuned it can not be sold or traded. Therefore people think twice about using armor they may not actually need because once it is attuned it is no longer worth anything to anyone besides you.

This is just a thought, as noone really knows how this works yet.
